Kenneth Winkle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery Funeral Home on Aug. 15, 2024.
Kenneth Robert "Bob" Van Winkle, 61, of Fairfax, Iowa, passed away on August 14th at the University of Iowa after a short battle with lymphoma while surrounded by his loved ones.
A private graveside service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Family, friends, and all the lives Bob touched are invited to come together in remembrance of him. In lieu of flowers, donations and condolences may be directed to the family.
Bob was born on February 10th, 1963, in Dallas Texas, to Lonnie Alitz and John Van Winkle, and raised by his beloved father, Lee Alitz. He grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Washington high school in 1981.
On October 1st, 1988, he married his best friend, Connie Jacobson. They were blessed with two children, Jacob and Jordyn. For 34 years, he worked at Worley Warehousing. In the late 80's, he was a Christian DJ for KOJC Radio. Bob played rugby for the Cedar Rapids Headhunters and was a coach for the Cedar Rapids Shieldmaidens women's rugby team. In addition, he coached youth wrestling and football for the Boys and Girls Club.
Bob was a proud Christian, wrestler, avid sports enthusiast and coach. He was a supporter of the New Zealand All Blacks national rugby team, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Dallas Cowboys. Bob had a passion for creating art, ancient warfare, Native American culture and heritage. He also enjoyed listening to Blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa and Christian music.
Bob was a beloved son, husband and father who cherished his family and four legged companions. Some of his fondest memories included taking the family to conventions and autograph shows, going on vacations over the 4th of July, watching his children play sports, attending concerts and plays, and going to estate sales with his wife.
He will be loved and remembered by his wife, Connie, his children Jordyn and Jake with his wife Katie and three grandchildren: Lennon, Loren, and Lerritt, his mother Lonnie, his siblings Leanne, James, Dan, and Don Van Winkle (Kansas), his in-laws Steve and Julie Jilovec, and Dean and Sue Jacobson, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Those who have passed before him include his son Joshua Robert, father Lee Alitz, bio dad John Van Winkle, brother Roy, grandparents Leo Yardley and Nelly Olson, and Roberta and John D. Van Winkle, uncle Larry Alitz, father-in law James Jacobson, brothers-in-law Randy Port and David Jacobson, aunt Marlene Wright, and good friend Bobby Amsler.
