October 22, 1961-April 17, 2023
Kent Malcolm Butler passed away in his home surrounded by family in Midlothian, TX on April 17, 2023 after battling cancer for two years. He was 61 years old.
Born in Port Arthur, TX on October 22, 1961, he was the son of Norman and Dora Butler. After graduating from Port Neches-Groves High School, he studied Instrumentation at Texas State Technical Institute and later returned to college to study Computer Programming at Angelina College. Kent was a hard-worker who rarely took a day off. He worked at the Lufkin Paper Mill and DFW Airport as an electrician, and was employed with Miller Brewery in Fort Worth at the time of his death.
Kent married his lovely bride Patty in 1991 and together they raised three wonderful children. Underneath his quiet and reserved exterior Kent had a heart for service, never hesitating to help a friend in need. He was a good man, unbelievably patient, dependable, and dearly loved by everyone who knew him.
Two of his passions were deer hunting and watching NASCAR races. He spent every opening week of deer season at his favorite camp in the Texas Hill Country with his dad and life-long hunting buddies. Since becoming empty-nesters, Kent and Patty made a hobby of traveling to NASCAR races at tracks across the U.S. Kent wasn't a carpenter by trade, but enjoyed building furniture and other items. He assisted his children in creating award-winning school projects: trebuchet, hovercraft, scale model of the Globe Theater, just to name a few. He built desks for each of his daughters, a bed for Ryan and bee hives for Patty. During the summer of 2020, Kent and Ryan converted a Dodge Ram Cargo Van into a van to live/travel the country in.
Kent was an active member at Central Church of Christ in Lufkin, TX and Mansfield Church of Christ. He deeply appreciated the fellowship of his church family.
Kent was recently preceded in death by his mama, Dora Lee. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Patty Butler; three children, Amy Covey and her spouse Dani, Kathleen Butler, and Ryan Butler; father, Norman Butler; and sister, Sarah Butler and her wife Joslyn Baker.
Memorial Service for Kent Butler will take place at 12:00 PM Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Mansfield Church of Christ- 580 Pleasant Ridge Drive, Mansfield, Texas 76063.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Mansfield Church of Christ.

Norman and Kent's family, I send my sincere sympathies for your loss. This is so hard to lose such a young man. Though I haven't met Kent, he sounds like a wonderful guy I wish I had known. May God hold you in his arms and help you all with the many beautiful memories you share.

Kent, many thoughts of you today. I am sending prayers to you and your family.
I also have cancer and I know the battle that you were fighting every day. May your transition was peaceful and God has reunited you with your Mama and grandparents now. God bless you. You will be in my prayers.
