Kent Gamble Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sanders Funeral Home - Lubbock on Feb. 17, 2026.
Kent Gamble was born on December 14, 1953, to Johnny and Norma Gamble, of Lubbock Texas. At a young age, Kent's mother described his energy as wild and boisterous, which foreshadowed his eventual love for self-expression through the art of drawing cartoons; particularly caricatures. Kent played football and ran track at Monterey High School (class of 1972). While studying advertising at Texas Tech University, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He drew cartoons for the student body magazine, La Ventana, and later for nationally distributed Cracked and Crazy magazines, and for many other publications. Perhaps Kent's most notable published piece was the gangster-spoof paperback, "The Touchables" both written and illustrated by him.

Besides being a father to his only child, Ryan Elizabeth Gamble, drawing professionally was among his greatest passions, as well as: taking in films, history, Texas Tech sports, and the jumble puzzle in the Avalanche Journal. For as humorous and fun as he was, Kent was an extremely grounded and pragmatic person; always reliable. When he wasn't spending time with his wife, Dana Gamble, or collecting the original artworks of Mort Drucker (of MAD magazine), or watching reruns of his mid-century television favorites, he worked as President of Stewart Title of Lubbock for over 35 years. Anyone who had the privilege of closing their home with Kent will tell you that he managed to make something as drab as document signing fun, leaving anyone in the room in stitches by the time it was over.

Kent is preceded in death by his mother, Norma Gamble, and his father, Johnny Gamble. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dana Gamble, his brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Kasha Gamble (of Austin) and their children, his stepmother, Trudy Gamble (of Lubbock), and his daughter, Ryan Gamble (of Austin) and son-in-law, Jason Farrar.

A memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 6, 2026 at the First United Methodist Church Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that memorial donations be made to Treasured Times at First United Methodist Church-Lubbock, 1411 Broadway St, Lubbock, TX 79401.

I am heartbroken to learn of Kent´s passing. I have known Kent since the first grade and consider him my first best friend. He was so easy to enjoy, and I would not be surprised if many considered him a best friend of theirs. And so talented! Art, humor, athletic... when they were passing talent out he got in several lines. May his family find peace and comfort from our Lord in Heaven at this time of loss and grief.

I had the privilege of being Kent´s hairdresser during the early 80´s until I relocated to the Abilene area in 1987. He was such a nice person and very well liked at The Hair Co. He was always in a good mood and kept us all laughing at his funny comments. He was such a talented artist. Condolences to his family.

Dana and Ryan
I am so sorry for your loss. Kent was such a fun classmate at Monterey. His artistic talent and the humor he put into his gift was a gift to all of us. He touched our lives.

I have known Kent since he married by best friend Dana. He loved her dearly. He was a great artist and supported Raider Red. He was very knowledgeable in the Title business and loved his job. It was sad to see such an intelligent man change over the years. He will be missed by his family and friends.
