"Enjoyed" is probably the wrong word here. Back in the day when Upper Iowa had to send the Director of Athletics (Mike McCready), the Director of Admissions (Kent), and the Faculty Athletic Representative (me) all to the same meeting, but could afford to pay for only one room with two beds... well, it was pretty clear from the get-go that at six-foot-three and 260 (or whatever) pounds, Mike was going to have one of the beds to himself. We managed. Those were some interesting years at UIU! Thank you for being a part of them, Kent, and for helping us weather them.

I was at UIU as a Coach when Kent transitioned into Athletics. He knew his stuff and was a straight shooter. I appreciated his professionalism and kindness. A great man for sure.

I am SO upset we will not be able to attend as we are leaving for vacation.
Kent McElvania was one in a million. So chill. So positive. Hell of a work ethic. I had my work study job with him at Upper Iowa and his office was right next to the softball office. He pushed me to do new things, taught me a lot about the athletic department and athletic director roles, and was a true friend when I was a knuckle head student-athlete. He would find opportunities for me and push me to do it. I ran for the SAAC student athlete advisory committee president and earned that title and that was because of Kent. He was always saying, "You are a winner. You are a leader. You are a powerful female presence."
I loved that he actually knew the student athletes at Upper Iowa. Where they were from, what they were about, what their accomplishments were. Even after I moved on from Upper Iowa- I would find him commenting on my Facebook posts and tons of others posts keeping up with our endeavors and families. And always posting the "Happy birthday. You are a winner" post on everyone´s timelines.
Kent is a winner and I really hope the UIU family celebrates him hard!!!!! Go Peacocks

I will always remember Kent fondly. He was one of the first people I met on campus. As a young student athlete at Upper Iowa from 2010-2014, I was probably more confident than I deserved to be. Kent didn´t help with that at all. He made every student athlete he came in contact with feel important and I will never forget that. Warm, caring, genuine, like he felt lucky to know you. We were all lucky to you, Kent. Rest in peace. I hope your golf game gets even better in heaven!

Kent was at every sporting event. Always an inviting smile and positive encouragement. Upper Iowa was so lucky to have him for so many years.
