Kent Turnbow, 84, of SLC, UT, passed away on December 10, 2023 in Salt Lake City, UT. He was born on February 12, 1939, in Heber, Utah.
Kent is survived by his loving wife, Gale Budge Turnbow, his daughters Lisa (Turnbow) Fizer and Kelly (Turnbow) Andrew and husband Chad Andrew. Grandchildren: Ty Andrew, Hailee Andrew, Allie Andrew, Bailey Fizer, Brock Fizer, Anthony Fizer and Jennifer Johnson. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Parcell, Gaye McPhie, and his brother Mark Turnbow. He was preceded in death by his sisters Deana Maxwell, Darlene Probst, his father Bill Turnbow, and his mother Dorothy Birdie Turnbow.
Kent attended Wasatch High School where he played on the football team. As a young man he spent summers with his father at the family cabin at Strawberry Reservoir. He was a member of the United States National Guard Reserves, proudly contributing to his country.
Throughout his life, Kent had a diverse career. He worked alongside his father in the Fish and Game industry at Strawberry Reservoir as a young man. Later he transitioned to sales and management at Winchester-Wester where he was able to spend time working (and playing) in Alaska with his job at Winchester. He then worked in sales at Carborundum Abrasives. He was known for his dedication and hard work. With his passion for golf, it was only fitting that in retirement he served as a Golf Marshall at Mountain Dell Golf Course.
Kent had a variety of hobbies that he enjoyed sharing with his family. Boating, fishing, snowmobiling, hunting, trap shooting, golfing and Ski Patrol in Park City. He was a member of several gun clubs; Sun Valley, Shoshone and Salt Lake. He was an excellent trap shooter and won many awards. He loved the outdoors. Kent cherished the time spent with his family at the cabin at Strawberry, teaching his daughters to shoot a 22 and catch as many fish as the limit would allow, creating lasting memories together. Flaming Gorge was also a favorite of Kent's. He won many fishing derbies at the lake and was involved with friends in the Flaming Gorge Yacht Club.
Kent had a way with people and could strike up a conversation with a stranger, leaving them laughing like old friends. Those close to him have endless accounts of all the people he touched during his life on this earth.
The funeral service for Kent Turnbow will be conducted at Probst Family Funerals, located in Midway, UT. His final resting place will be the Midway City Cemetery. There will be a viewing on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Probst Family Funerals located at 79 E. Main Street in Midway followed by a Graveside Service at 11:30 AM at the Midway City Cemetery.
His legacy as an exceptional outdoorsman and loving family man will be deeply missed by his loved ones and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
