Kermit John Gayman

Kermit John Gayman, 77, died unexpectedly on February 13th. A resident of Salinas at the time of his death, Kermit spent most of his life on the Monterey Peninsula.
Kermit was born November 2, 1947 in Farmington, Illinois to John Earl Gayman and Dorthy Sutton Gayman. A 1965 graduate of Pacific Grove High School, Kermit went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Sharon Edgin, in 1966. They lived in Pacific Grove, Carmel Valley, and Prundale raising their three children Steve, Kristy, and Karen.
Kermit joined the local electrical union as an apprentice in 1966. Over the next 60 years, he built a career as a journeyman electrician, and was a job foreman at countless local projects, big and small. He was a dedicated member of IBEW Local #234. After retirement in 2005, Kermit and Sharon moved to Anderson, California, where they bought a small farm and pursued their dream of raising Shetland sheep. After Sharon's death in 2017, Kermit and Steve eventually resettled in Salinas.
Kermit will always be remembered for his kindness, devotion to family, and willingness to help those in need. He never failed to be a sounding board and dispenser of sage advice to friends and family alike. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and going for walks with his devoted dog Charlie.
Kermit is survived by his son Steve of Salinas and daughter Kristy Smith (Tim) of Salinas. He took great pride in his grandchildren Nicky and Gabby Smith. He is also survived by his sister, Priscilla White (Don) of Anderson, California. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sharon, in 2017 and his daughter Karen in 1993, in addition to his brothers David, Richard, Malcolm, Merrill, and Kirk.
