Kermit Norlander Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapels - Eden Prairie on Dec. 17, 2023.
Norlander, Kermit "Kenny" Age 85, of Eden Prairie, MN,passed away on Dec. 9, 2023. Survived by loving wife, Nancy; children Mike (Mary) Norlander; Kathy (John) Huss; brother-in-law Dave Elder and sister-in-law Pat Norlander. He is also survived by many wonderful family members and special friends. Preceded in death by parents, Ray and Ethel; brother Dennis; sisters Audrey DeSanto, and Sharon Elder. Kenny was born in Sandstone, MN and grew up on Park Point/Lake Superior in Duluth, MN, attending Central High School, where he excelled at basketball and baseball, and most importantly met Nancy Simmons. They married in 1959 and after he graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, they moved to the Twin Cities. Kenny had a lengthy career in finance at Control Data and continued his career with Parkwood Knolls Construction for many years until his retirement in 2004. He also served as unofficial financial advisor to Mike, Kathy, and various other lucky people. Ken and Nancy were members of MN Valley Country Club in Bloomington, MN for several years and met some of their closest friends there. After many enjoyable winter vacations in SW Florida, in 2001 he and Nancy purchased a home in Copperleaf at the Brooks in Estero, FL where he was very happy to get away from the MN winters. He enjoyed playing golf and bocce, making many friends over the years. Kenny loved watching sports (especially basketball, football, baseball, and golf), golfing, reading (especially books related to history and sports) and was able to engage in conversations on just about any topic. Most of all he loved his family, who describe him as a man of strong convictions who was kind, generous, honest, intelligent, protective, and strong. He persevered through several health challenges over the past few years, without complaint, and is now able to rest peacefully and without pain. We love you and miss you, Kenny. Memorial Service 11:00am Wednesday December 27th with visitation beginning at 10:00am at Washburn McReavy Edina Chapel, 5000 West 50th St., Edina, MN. Private Interment.
