Kerwin Stackpoole Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ivie Funeral Home - Hayesville on Jan. 17, 2024.
Kerwin "Stack" Stackpoole passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2024 in his home in Hayesville, North Carolina after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease with his loving wife and daughter by his side.
Kerwin was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts where he graduated high school, met his loving wife Peggy, and enlisted in the Army at the age of 19. His first tour of military duty was to Orleans, France where he waited for Peggy to join him to be married. He and Peggy spent two happy years in France where they welcomed their son Michael and daughter, Deborah.
Kerwin served 20 honorable years in the Army, assigned to several tours of duty in Germany, served in the Vietnam War, and retired from the Pentagon in 1975 as an Intelligence Analyst with the distinguished rank of Master Sergeant E8.
Following his retirement from the Army, Kerwin then moved his family to Dania Beach, Florida where he enjoyed his retirement near the beach and started a second career with JC Penny's, retiring as one of their top salesmen.
Kerwin enjoyed traveling with his wife and grandchildren and discovered Hayesville, North Carolina while on vacation. Falling in love with the beauty of the mountains and lake, Kerwin and Peggy established permanent residence in Hayesville in 2019.
Kerwin loved his family and especially cherished spending time with his grandchildren.
He had great faith, a generous heart, and a funny sense of humor.
He will dearly missed.
He was the son of the late Thomas Stackpoole and Margaret Stackpoole, and preceded in death by his son, Michael A. Stackpoole; sisters, Betty and Madeline; and grandson, Patrick.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret A. Stackpoole; and daughter, Deborah Scherrer, both of Hayesville, North Carolina. Kerwin leaves behind five grandchildren, Philip, Matthew, Kristen, Shannon and Ethan; five great-grandchildren, Angelica, Violet, Penelope, Laila, and Ethan, as well as nieces, Susan and Judy.
