We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Kete Gouh, fondly known as "Papa," who left us on October 1, 2025. Born on September 29, 1940, in Djeta, Togo, Papa lived a life marked by courage, integrity, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Papa's early years were spent serving proudly in the Togolese Army, where he rose through the ranks due to his dedication and leadership. However, confronted with corruption and personal danger, he made the courageous decision to relocate to the United States with his wife and beloved children-Deo, Bella Liebe, Didi, Jean-Pierre, Daniel, Kayissan, David, and Tchotcho Koumou-Nete. In doing so, he sought a safer, more promising future for his family.
In the U.S, Papa's determination and hard work earned him respect and admiration, both within his community and among his family. His legacy unfolds through his grandchildren: Debora, Kezia, Nikel, Odette, Flora, Naomi, Sam, Thierry, Avery, Noah, Jermaine, AdrianaTyris, Eva, Omary, Arais, Aveha, Xola, Levy, and his great-grandchildren: Augustine, Florence, Elhie.
A man of integrity and warmth, Papa was admired for his moral courage and cherished for the boundless love he shared. His life was a testament to resilience, dedication, and the enduring power of family.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Albert & Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine Street, Lewiston, with a Liturgy of the Word Service to follow at 1 p.m. Committal prayers and burial will take place afterward at St. Peter's Cemetery, 217 Switzerland Road, Lewiston.
