Keven Walter Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Keven A. Walter passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, after a brief battle with Cancer. He was the first born child on September 19, 1956 in Richland Center, WI to Austin Leroy Walter and Gertrude (Tadder) Walter. While in High School he participated in several activities. He was involved in Band, Choir, Madrigals, Glee Club, Pep Band, Dance Band as well as being a member of the Yearbook Staff. He got his musical talent from his Dad and love of people from his Mom. Being a competitive person also led him to try out Wrestling and Football but he really excelled at Cross Country and Track and Field.
After graduating High School, he went to Western Wisconsin Technical institute in La Crosse along with his three classmates Jack, Steve, and Carl. He graduated from there in 1976 with a degree in Printing and Publishing. This degree served him very well where he spent the remainder of his life in the La Crosse area, and an area he called home. Because of his athletic ability and background, Keven participated in several slow pitch softball leagues throughout the La Crosse area. He even brought his team down to the annual Boaz Fun Days Softball Tournament for several years in the late 70's. He and his team would camp out in tents in his parents' front yard, which was right across the road from the playing field. While playing various positions he excelled at being a slow pitch pitcher. He enjoyed this so much that he played well into his mid 50's. Eventually he just got to the point where is body just wore out from all those years of playing. Don't we wish that we could all do that?
After retiring, he kept himself busy while providing medical transportation for the La Crosse area. While keeping in touch with several classmates over the years Keven recently enjoyed his 50th High School Class Reunion. He talked about is so much and would always bring it up in any conversation.
To know Keven was to understand his humor. With ANY social get together he was always the one to lighten the mood and tell a joke. Now whether it was a good joke or bad/sarcastic joke, he was always the one to laugh at it or make you cringe while he did it. No matter what the situation was, you couldn't help but laugh along with him and give him a big hug. His smile would always light up the room. While being a character, that character that he portrayed will be missed.
Keven is survived by his daughter Cassie (Josh) Zimmer of La Crosse along with two Grandchildren, Maverick Zimmer and Elleanor Zimmer, two Grandchildren that he truly adored. He is further survived by his siblings Kent (Lori) Walter, Kristi (Kevin) Pine both of Richland Center, Kraig (Carla) Walter of Stoughton and Kelly Bess of Madison and Cassie's Mother Angie Zinns. He is further survived by several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Jillian Walter, his brother Kurt and a very special family member Don Kitsimble.
Funeral Services will be held at Clary Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Noon with visitation from 10 AM until the time of service. His High School classmate Ron Fruit will be officiating. So many Thanks to his cousin Mike Burns for providing Keven with comfort and support, many friends, classmates, and relatives who reached out to Keven over the past few months. That meant a great deal to him in his final days. www.clarymemorialfuneralhome.com
