Kevin Mitchell Beachum, age 40, of Yorktown, VA, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and memories of a short, but well-lived life. Born in Norfolk, VA, on August 17, 1984, to Peggy Gayle Beachum and Steve Eugene Beachum, he was the husband of Aislyn Ryan Beachum.
Kevin lived in Virginia his entire life. The formative years of his childhood were spent in Norfolk, VA, where he cemented many of his lifelong friendships that sustained him throughout his lifetime into his final days. Kevin graduated from Granby High School and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America in 2002. He then attended Advanced Technology Institute (ATI), where he received a technical degree in automotive/diesel mechanics in 2004.
Kevin met the love of his life in October 2006, married in 2009, and welcomed his two beautiful children shortly thereafter, Maggie in 2010 and Steven in 2014. In 2015, he moved his family to York County, where he continued to work on his primary focus, his family, which brought him his greatest joy. He was a wonderful, doting husband, father, son, and brother, who tended to his family needs daily and supported them in all their endeavors. Kevin enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, including archery, boy scouts, hunting, fishing, puttering around the house, tinkering with cars (big and small), Legos, playing games, hearing his favorite country songs and so much more. If it involved loving and being with his family, he was all in.
In 2019, Kevin was diagnosed with a grade 2 diffused astrocytoma brain tumor. He dictated the terms of his 6+ year battle by participating in all research and treatment options available. Being treated at an educational facility, he always allowed students to be a part of his treatment because he hoped through a hands-on education one day, he could help raise awareness and someday help his care team find a cure. Kevin's journey was traveled under the compassionate care of his Neuro-oncology team; led by Dr. David Schiff at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA; and several specialty care teams at the Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA.
In 2024, after over 18+ years of service, Kevin was medically retired from MDV Spartannash in Norfolk, VA, as a Receiving Warehouse Supervisor. He started as a warehouse selector and worked his way up through the ranks holding a wide range of positions: loader, inventory control tech, receiving lead, and finally receiving supervisor. He built many positive professional relationships, which he expressed gratitude for daily and treasured the time he spent with all his fellow co-workers.
In addition to his wife and parents, Kevin is survived by his daughter, Maggie Beachum; son, Steven Beachum; brother, Christopher Beachum of Norfolk, VA; and sister, Kimberly Beachum of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by a host of loving relatives, including aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, sisters-in-law, and other dear friends who will always cherish his memory.
Kevin's huge heart, happy go lucky nature, and commitment to those he loved will be profoundly missed and never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Weymouth Funeral Home, 12746 Nettles Dr, Newport News, VA, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025 with a reception to follow. Please consider wearing bright colors; in lieu of the traditional black, in honor of his bright spirit.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to UVA Neuro-Oncology Research Fund. Checks can be mailed to UVA Division of Neuro-Oncology, c/o Dr. D. Schiff, P.O. Box 800432, Charlottesville, VA 22908, and state that the gift is being made in memory of Mr. Kevin Beachum.
