Kevin J. Burns, 92, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 14, 2025 at St. Augustin Catholic Church, 545 42nd Street, Des Moines, where Kevin was an active member. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., (prior to the service) at the church. Interment, with military honors, will be at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines.

Kevin was born July 26, 1932, in Springfield, Illinois, the youngest of three children, of Harry and Agnes (Dressendorfer) Burns. He was a veteran of the Korean War as a member of the US Army, stationed out of Fort Bliss, Texas. He was a graduate of St. Louis University and obtained his Master of Arts degree in Social Administration from St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri. He was employed as the Commissioner of the Department of Social Services for the State of Iowa throughout the 1970's. This was followed by a career with the Department of Health and Human Services for the federal government in Washington, DC and his last career was developing HMO services for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York City.

Kevin was a devoted husband (Alberta Green Burns, 1932-2006) and father (Paula Burns, 1961-2024). He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Jean Coady and Sharon Gregg. He is survived by his son, Timothy Burns and his wife, Marybeth and granddaughters, Madeline and Rebecca Burns, all of Chicago, Illinois as well as several nieces, nephews and their families.
