Kevin Cleary Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 28, 2025.
Kevin Warren Cleary, born on July 29, 1952, in Washington, D.C., passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, with his faithful companion Hunter who remained by his side until the end.

Kevin was a father, brother, and friend who lived a life filled with passion for the outdoors. He spent over 25 years residing in Athens, where he cultivated not only his garden but also a lifetime of cherished memories. Kevin established his own nursery business, and subsequently was employed by Lowes as a live plant nursery specialist. He truly enjoyed sharing his extensive knowledge and love of gardening with all who asked his advice. His tomatoes were particularly renowned among friends and family, a testament to his green thumb and dedication to nurturing life.

Kevin's interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. He found joy in fishing, crabbing, and spending time at the beach. A lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves, Kevin also cheered passionately for the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and Georgia Bulldogs.

Those who knew Kevin remember him as a fun dad with a great sense of humor, whose patience was matched only by his stubbornness. His warmth and wit left an indelible mark on everyone he met.

Kevin is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dr. Thomas and Ruth Cleary. He is survived by his sons, Patrick Cleary and his wife Melanie, and Andrew Cleary; his brother, Dr. Sean Cleary and his wife Anita; his sisters, Sheila Cleary and her husband James Whitehead, Maureen Cleary, and Kathleen Cleary. He also leaves behind his cherished grand-dogs, Duncan and Camp.

Kevin's life was a testament to the joys of simple pleasures, the importance of family, and the power of a good laugh. As he embarks on his next great adventure, we can only imagine he's found the perfect fishing spot, with Hunter by his side and a smile on his face.
