Kevin Dorney, of Norwell, passed away on December 9, 2024 at the age of 76 after a too short battle with amyloidosis. Kevin was the beloved husband of 52 years to Marjorie Dorney--their mutual love and respect was evident to all who knew them. He was the devoted father of Katie Dorney (Wong) and her husband Danny of Newton and Brian Dorney of Weymouth and the adored and adoring Ampa to Dylan Daniel, Eleanor Joy, and Josephine Grace of Newton. He is survived by his brothers and sisters who loved him dearly-- Thomas Dorney and his wife Margrete of Sandwich, Patricia Gravini and her husband Joseph of West Peabody, the late Richard Dorney of West Peabody, Gary Dorney and his wife Denise of Wakefield, and Sheila Scanlon and her husband Paul of Newburyport. Kevin is also survived by his two best friends John Dwyer and Paul Sullivan (together, affectionately nicknamed the three amigos) and many other close friends, nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Bertha (Powers) and Thomas L. Dorney.
Kevin was born on April 15, 1948 and raised in the Malden/Everett area, an area he continued to hold dear to his heart. After graduating high school he went on to obtain his Bachelor's degree at Bridgewater State College. On February 19, 1972 he married the love of his life, Marjorie (Nordman), and the two settled in Norwell to raise their family. Kevin worked a lengthy and successful career at Maximus as a consultant and in the process of work, built many lasting friendships. He retired in 2013 and ultimately settled into his most favorite job of all-Ampa to Dylan, Ellie and Josie.
Kevin was an unwaveringly loyal and principled man whose life centered around his family and friends. He had a positive attitude about almost everything and always found the best in everyone and everything. Kevin was a people person through and through and would stop to chat and get to know anyone he encountered on walks around the neighborhood in Norwell, Popponsesset and Newton. He was affectionately known as the Mayor of these neighborhoods. He enjoyed going golfing with friends, cheering on Boston sports teams (Bruins and Celtics especially), beach time at his happy place in Popponesset, exploring new places, reading and listening to music. Kevin was a talented cook who loved entertaining--he was happiest when his family was together and cared for and would go out of his way making various stops at different places to bring everyone's favorite foods. He loved dogs, especially Boxers-Buster, Jake and Denali (and begrudgingly his English Bulldogs granddogs, Bruno and Moose). But his absolute most favorite thing of all was spending time with his grandchildren--whether it be picking them up from school every Friday, cheering them on at soccer and basketball games, reading to them while they sat on his lap, playing in the waves, creating concoctions or organizing backyard games and campfires.
Kevin will be missed tremendously and will always be remembered as simply the best. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, December 17th from 10:00AM-12:00PM at Sullivan Funeral Home in Hanover - 551 Washington St., Rt. 53. A funeral home service will begin at 12:00PM. Burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Brigham and Women's Hospital to support the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (www.bwhgiving.org) in memory of Kevin Dorney.

Our sons would see Mr. & Mrs. Dorney when they visited Danny, Katie, Dylan, Ellie, & Josie. They fondly remember Mr. Dorney as being "engaging, super kind, & so patient with the grands." They noted how Mr. Dorney would make time to come say `hi´ even if he & his wife were busy. They also enjoyed their `golf talks´ with him as well as a round of `Smitecks´ (sp?) with him. He will be missed.

This news is really heart breaking - l met Kevin over 30 years ago when l landed my first corporate job. From the first day we met he was so nice to me! I remember he always had his shirt sleeves roll up in a particular way that l had never seen before and not since - l would get a kick out of hearing his thick Boston accent - When l got laid off from the company it Kevin who fought for me to get a better severance package - an all around great guy - my deepest condolences to the Dorney family - A true brother -Gregg Holland
