Kevin Richard Hemmila

Kevin Richard Hemmila, age 53 of L'Anse, MI passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024 from the result of a boating accident. He was born in Ishpeming, MI on February 3, 1971 the son of Richard and Bonita (Niemisto) Hemmila. Kevin graduated from Negaunee High School and went on to work at Baraga Maximum Prison in February of 1993 at which he retired from in 2022. He loved gardening, canning, making jerky, smoking fish along with hunting, fishing and camping.
Kevin is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Kathy of L'Anse, sons Tyler (Katy Johnson) of Skanee, and Tucker (Annabelle Tice) of Coldwater, MI, grandchildren Autumn, Hunter, Kyler, Kohen, and Kinsey Hemmila and Asher Wood of Manistique, his parents Richard and Bonita, brother Eric and wife Kristy of Ishpeming, mother-in-law Jayne Uitto Thibeault, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, great friends and coworkers.
He was preceded in death by his son Tony, grandparents G. Irene and Arvid Hemila and Betty and Toivo Niemisto.
A celebration of life visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse. Michigan Department of Corrections Honor Guard will stand post during Kevin's visitation. Immediately following the visitation, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at the L'Anse American Legion Post #144, L'Anse, MI.
