Kevin Scott Leany, age 68, of Henderson, NV passed away on December 27, 2023 in Las Vegas, NV. He was born in Henderson, NV on January 25, 1955 to Charles Eugene Leany and June Utahana Johnson. He married Sherri Thayer on June 10, 1988 in St. George, Utah.
Kevin was everything trains and geysers. He was a member of GOSA “Geysers Observation and Study Association” and was instrumental in the operating of the web cam at Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. He volunteered in Yellowstone and also at the Train Museum in Boulder City. He was an instructor for the Operation Life Saver for the Railroad. Wood working was another of his passions and many people have been gifted with pens he had made over the years. Kevin was an Armor Crewman in the US Army. He served his country from 1973-1977. He was stationed in Texas at Fort Hood, then in Germany at Hanau Army Airfield. Rotation had him defending the border of East and West Germany. He loved sharing stories of his time in the Army. Kevin loved caring for chickens and dreamed of being a pig farmer. He was a loving father and grandfather. He spent hours sharing what he loved with his children, and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Sherri Leany; four children Susan (Daniel) Simpkins, Robert (Dacy) Leany, Ashley (Doyle) Hone, Maisie Leany; nine grandchildren Madyson, Kiva, Charlotte, William, Delsi, Lincoln, Elliot, Dorothy, and Cody.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 1002 Burkholder Blvd Henderson, NV 89015. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:45 am. Burial will be held at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 10:40 am.
