Kevin Alan McCarthy, 70 years old, of
Salem, NH passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on October 31, 2025. Kevin was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1954.
Kevin grew up in Nashua, NH until he was 10 years old and then moved to Salem where he graduated from Salem High School. He started working as a manager for Bradlees in New York. He returned to Salem and bought Salem Center Taxi company that he ran for many years. He eventually went to work as a manager for Anderson Little, Walls'n All and Stylecraft Supply. He retired from Stylecraft Supply, a paint and wallpaper store in Wakefield, MA, where he managed the store and became known as the "go to" person to color match paints for many contractors and residential customers. He had a gift for decorating and had a side business for interior design where he redecorated many businesses and residences. While Kevin worked to support his family, he was not defined by his jobs, but for his passions.
Kevin lived his life for his family, who he adored, and loved being surrounded by friends. He loved real estate and was always searching the real estate guides for properties. He dreamed of buying a cottage on a lake and his dream finally came true. He found a cottage on Lake Pemigewasset that he turned into a beautiful escape. He generously shared his beautiful "Cottage in the Breeze" with friends and family, hosting cookouts, and parties and making sure his children, nieces and nephews were able to enjoy tubing, kayaking and swimming on the lake. You would always find Kevin on his boat or on the island picking blueberries, which he would pick for hours. Kevin loved a good laugh and was the life of the party, telling jokes and pulling pranks on family and friends. He loved to sit with friends and have a scotch and a cigar planning his next adventure. He was always fascinated with archeology and was an avid Frank Sinatra fan. Kevin also loved Florida and found a vacation home in Venice. His dream was to retire and become a snowbird. He planned to rent his Florida home until he was ready to retire but instead gave his mother and father-in-law the house each year so they could enjoy Florida and escape the cold winters. He would vacation there whenever possible and was always willing to share it with other family and friends to enjoy. When he did get the chance to go, you would always find him at the ocean looking for Sharks' teeth or enjoying the beautiful aqua waters at the North Jetty.
Kevin was a member of St Matthew Parish where he was part of Hands of Mercy. He loved helping and would spend hours cutting fabric to make blankets that would go for those in need in the community or were sent on their mission trips.
Kevin met the love of his life, Laura Azorian when he owned Salem Center Taxi Company. They married in 1978 and had a loving marriage. Kevin and Laura had three children Derek, Nichole and Tyler who Kevin adored and was very proud of. Kevin loved and encouraged his children and was a wonderful father. He spent time with Derek on hikes and teaching him how to shoot, with Tyler teaching him to fish (where they caught Walter) and taking Nichole to the Hands of Mercy every week.
Kevin is survived by his wife of 47 years, Laura McCarthy, son Derek and daughter- in- law Jennifer McCarthy; daughter Nichole McCarthy; and son Tyler and daughter- in- law- Shauna McCarthy. He is also survived by three beautiful grandchildren, with a fourth on the way. Gianna and Kayleigh, parents Derek and Jennifer McCarthy and Kali, parents Tyler and Shauna with one on the way.
He also leaves behind many beloved friends, especially Steven (his partner in crime) and Lorraine Haibowicz who he shared many laughs and wonderful years with. A special thanks to Amedisys Hospice who helped Kevin through a very long journey with compassion and love, Tamara "Tammy" Stevens who was a rock through some of the toughest days we faced, and Kristen, Lori and Dee who were always there to support and guide us.
