Kevin Nelson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Funeral Center - Scott Chapel on Mar. 9, 2026.
Kevin Wayne Nelson, age 62 of Jeffersonville, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of good stories, loyal friendships, and the kind of big-hearted spirit that made everyone feel like they belonged.

Born to the late Lawrence James and Ruth Ann (Baker) Nelson, Kevin carried with him a deep pride in his service to his country as a United States Army Veteran. That sense of loyalty and brotherhood never left him, and he remained active with his fellow veterans through the VFW, where he could often be found catching up with friends he'd made over the decades-sharing stories and laughter.

Kevin was a welder by trade and a craftsman at heart. For many years he worked at Jeff Boat, where his strong hands and sharp eye helped shape steel into something lasting. But Kevin didn't just clock out and leave his talents at work. At home, sparks could often be seen flying from his workshop as he welded and fabricated beautiful ornamental iron pieces-plant hangers and other handmade treasures that he loved to make for friends and family. For Kevin, the joy wasn't in keeping things for himself; it was in seeing someone else smile.

Kevin had a way of making people feel welcome, valued, and appreciated. More than anything, Kevin was a loving, big-hearted, giving soul. He genuinely wanted the people around him to be happy and to enjoy life as much as he did. His kindness, humor, and generosity will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, Kevin was preceded in death by his faithful, loving companion – his special dog, "Baby Boy," who certainly greeted him in Heaven with tail wags and kisses!

Kevin leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Hope Mang (Danny) and Ruth Nelson (Wayne); his brother, Ozzie Nelson (Diane); his nephews, Lawrence and Jay; and niece, Natalie; and his two grand-nieces, Elayna & Aveyuh.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Legacy Funeral Center, Scott Chapel (921 Main Street in Jeffersonville).

Kevin's life reminds us that sometimes the strongest people are the ones who quietly build things-whether it's ironwork in a shop, friendships in a neighborhood, or a lifetime of love shared with the people around them. And those are the kinds of things that last forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be given to Kosair Children's Hospital.
