KEVIN PARRISH Obituary
Kevin J. Parrish, 68, of Indianapolis, Indiana was born on January 9, 1957 to Barbara L. Broadus. Kevin made his peaceful transition on April 1, 2025, after a long-fought battle with cancer.
Kevin received his formal education in the Indianapolis Public School system and Chatard Catholic High School. In High School, Kevin excelled in all sports; but became an avid basketball and baseball player. Excelling in baseball, Kevin picture can still be seen as he was inducted into their baseball wall of fame. From High school, he went to the College of the Albermarle in North Carolina where he received a full scholarship. Scouts eventually drafted him to play minor league for the Detroit Tigers, AAA Farm club. Later, Kevin transferred to Tennessee State University (TSU) and earned a degree in BioMedical Science. While at TSU Kevin became a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity Inc. in 1977, where he was giving the line name of "Sargent Carter". While serving with his fraternity, he developed his leadership skills and became Pole Mark and served in various other capacities within the organization. From pre-school to college, Kevin's outgoing character allowed him to cultivate and maintain various friendships throughout his years.
After college he returned to Indiana to start his career with Johnson and Johnson as a Medical Sales Representative, and promoted to an Organ Courier. Eventually, he ended up at Covance as an Oncology Lab Tech.
To know Kevin, you knew he lived his life with a smile and effervescent personality. As a believer in Christ, Kevin gave his life to Christ at 2nd Christian Church, now know as Light of the World Christian Church where he was an active member of the choir. Kevin could always keep a smile on your face as his sense humor became present in every conversation. In conversations with loved ones, his affection was evident through nicknames. He called or was called by names like "Might Mouse", "KP", "Moots", "snakelips", "candylady", and "boodah". Those who were fortunate to have a nickname or be called by one, knew they held a special place in his heart.
Let's not forget to add bowling to his hobbies. Kevin bowled at least 3-4 times a week with different teams and traveled across the country to participate in tournaments.
Kevin spoke and was very proud of one special accomplishment. His son Curtis. Kevin spent his life being a prideful parent to his one and only loving son. Every ounce of his heart was proud of Curtis's accomplishments. All that mattered was family.
Preceding Kevin in death were his parents, Barbara L. and George R. Shanklin.
Left to cherish his memory is his son, Curtis Parrish; brother, Darrell Parrish, sister, Kimberly Shanklin-Carpenter; brother, Keith (Deirdre) Shanklin; niece, Sarah Shanklin; godson, Kevin Williams, II; granddaughter Amaiyah Thomas; Uncles, William, Anthony and Eric Broadus, and John Charleston II; Aunt, Lillian Charleston, along with a host of other cousins, relatives and the Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

Kevin Parrish was a kind, thoughtful, friendly dude. I always enjoyed his positive impact when he came to his cousin's home. Well done, good and faithful servant - well done...may you rest in peace.

Kevin was a wonderful guy and a good friend. He will be truly missed by everyone that was fortunate enough to know him. I will always remember our long late-night discussions about everything, laughing until we cried, and all the bowling tournaments we went on together. You will forever be in my heart KP! Rest in Peace my friend.
