Kevin Thomas Schlamp, MD was born on November 25, 1955, to Violet and Donald in Calgary, Ontario Canada. He was able to live out his dream of being a doctor.
Dr. Schlamp graduated from medical school from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver Canada. He completed his Family Medicine residency at Plains Health Centre, Regina Saskatchewan as well as an assistant clinical professor. Dr. Schlamp, better known as "Doc," began his medical journey as an emergency room physician while in Canada. He moved to Sulphur in 1994 to open his private practice until the time of his death. He was proud of his Canadian and American citizenship. To emphasize that, he loved being out in cold weather in shorts.
Dr. Schlamp dedicated his life to healing others. He often prophetically joked that he would only stop being a doctor when they put the toe tag on him. Dr. Schlamp was a medical director of Hackberry Rural Health, Vinton Rural Health, and Holly Hill Nursing Home. He served as the West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital president of medical staff, Medical Director, and Chief of Staff of Cornerstone Hospital. Dr. Schlamp served as Assistant Clinic Preceptor for Tulane University. He was a member of the American Board of Family Practice and a Certified Wound Care Specialist. He was also dedicated to the community and was always willing to do the exams of Sulphur football and wrestling teams. He was a generous doctor, often doing work pro bono or working late to ensure the best possible care for his patients.
Dedicated to his values, Dr. Schlamp recited his motto often "tell the truth, work hard, and love your family." He lived by those words and took great pride in his family. Dr. Schlamp was a man of habit and simple comforts. He loved getting the same coffee every day, having grilled cheese sandwiches, relaxing in his recliner, and hiking. An avid reader and collector, Dr. Schlamp loved delving into history, philosophy, and art.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife Bridget and five children, Brooklyn (Connor); Lexi (Alastair); Angelina (Dylan); Griffin (Lauren), and Jacqueline, and two grandchildren, Aceton and Gabby.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Susan.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 7th, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 10:00am.

I just found about this great loss to a profession I love and a man that so many called a friend.
As a fellow Canadian from Alberta, Dr. Schlamp has given the gifts given to so many.
"Well done, good and faithful servant"

I hope this link opens. In 1990 our emerg dept had a golf tourney. Dr Schlamp and Dr Lannan saved a kids life when struck by lightning. I really hope the link opens.
Lots of great memories here in Saskatchewan. He will be missed.

To the Kevin Schlamp family,

You do not know me, but I worked as an ER RN at the Regina General Hospital for years with your husband and your dad. He was one of the most compassionate and professional physicians I have ever worked with. As a nurse, I felt "safe" when he was on duty. He was a competent doctor and truly cared about the pediatric to geriatric patients in his care.

I truly admired him. We have lost a beautiful soul.

Our condolences to Bridget and the Schlamp family.

I have known Kevin for over 35 years, first as a resident, an ER physician and a family physician in both Regina and Sulphur. He also provided locum tenens for my patients in Regina. He was an excellent clinician and provided outstanding and empathetic care to his patients.
He faced the challenges in life with determination and a smile. His sense of humour was an asset that aided him throughout life.

Kevin welcomed us when we moved to Louisiana and always was available, if needed.

RIP, our friend,

Bryan and Patty Barootes

My earliest memory of Kevin is from my Auntie Vi´s and Uncle Don´s home in Burnaby B.C. His mum and mine were sisters , they Schlamps lived in Burnaby and we were in North Vancouver so my siblings and I spent a lot of time together with Susan and him as children . Kevin used to tease Susan and I incessantly, destroy our dolls and chase us through their back yard crab apple trees. But he would always end up making us laugh. He was such a wonderful older brother to Susan, a good friend to my brothers and a truly good soul. I feel honoured to have known him. My deepest sympathies to his entire family.

Kevin was my cousin. I have known him for his whole life. It was a good life - no, Kevin lived an exceptional life - a life filled with warmth, challenges, and deep caring. I feel honoured to have been a small part of it.
Kevin was one of the best, most honest and truly compassionate people I have ever known. I will miss him always.

As Kevin´s younger (by one year) cousin I have known him my entire life. He was like a brother to me. I love him. I will miss him desperately.

I was able to really connect with him as we lived together while he was in med school and I was in grad school at UBC in the early 80´s. His sister Susan also lived in the house with us. Those were fabulous years as we bonded over difficult classes and absolutely epic parties!

Kevin and I have stayed close through the years and I was honoured to be his best man when he married Bridget.
He was, in essence, the epitome of the "Family Man " - caring so very deeply for those who were lucky enough to be a part of his extended family.

The last time I saw him was in October when we scattered his sister´s ashes at Second Beach in Vancouver. A ritual I believe we will repeat, unfortunately, for him soon.

Kevin and I went for a walk that day in Vancouver and talked a lot about life and mortality. We were looking forward to at least 5 more years of enjoying each other´s company.
That was how much longer he expected to live.
I thought it would be 20 years.
We were both wrong.

You never know .
Hug your people.

When I was diagnosed with Cancer I went to him. I told him that my brother, Mike Westbrook, also went to him he always said "I won't hold that against you" and that always made me laugh.

Our most sincere condolences to Bridget and family. We are still in disbelief since hearing of his passing. Kevin was not only a very astute clinician but a caring and compassionate individual. It was after discussions with him that I moved to the Sulphur area and spent 12 great years in medical practice in Westlake .We will never forget his friendship and quidance in helping us settle into our new home in Southern Louisiana. He will be missed by the entire Sulphur medical community but especially by his patients whom he served over the past 30 years. Rest in peace old friend.

Kevin spent an hour or more with me after my daughter had a stroke due to encephalitis. He listened. He encouraged me to have hope. I will miss him being around.
