Kevin Smyth Obituary

Kevin P. Smyth

June 16, 1953 - Dec. 19, 2023

QUEENSBURY - Kevin P. Smyth, 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Queensbury on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

Kevin was born in Glens Falls on June 16, 1953 to Kathleen (Knickerbocker) of Fort Edward and John Francis Smyth of County Meath, Ireland.

He graduated from Fort Edward High School in 1971 and served as a medic in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1975 and the Army Reserves from 1978 to 1981.

On April 15, 1978, he married Donna L. Johnson of Glens Falls, NY and together they raised three children in the Glens Falls area.

Kevin graduated from Adirondack Community College in 1984 and subsequently worked as a Design Drafter for Namic and several engineering firms in the region. In 2015, he retired from Light-O-Rama, Inc. in South Glens Falls, NY, where he worked for his longtime friend to brighten the holidays.

Kevin was a loving, supportive spouse and dedicated father. He enjoyed teaching his son and daughters how to build and fix things and taking them to the many swimming holes and rope swings in the area. Kind and patient, he never missed a sporting event or performance involving his kids or an opportunity to be goofy with his grandkids. Kevin sustained an interest in 70s rock and classic cars that in recent years he shared with his granddaughter, Haddy and his dear friend, Paul Itzo.

Kevin was predeceased by his parents, his stepmother, Ann (Hyland) Smyth, and his black lab, Lenny. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Donna Smyth; daughter, Robyn Smyth and her husband, Brandt Burgess and their children: Hadlee and Oran, of Alexandria, VA; son, Eric Smyth of Glens Falls; daughter, Jalene Smyth of Falls Church, VA; sister, Kathy Pitts of West Henrietta, NY; and several siblings by marriage, nieces, and nephews.

Friends may call on the family from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on January 27, 2024 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home at 136 Main St. in South Glens Falls. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the Albany Veterans Affairs Medical Center and High Peaks Hospice for the exceptional care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Fisher House Foundation at the Stratton VA Medical Center, 113 Holland Avenue, Albany, NY 12208.
