Kim Deloy Nelson, 64, passed away following a short illness on Thursday morning, January 11, 2024, at The Auberge in North Ogden. He learned several days ago that he had stage four terminal cancer, and everything happened so quickly, our family is grateful he is at peace and not suffering, but we miss him terribly.

Kim was born in Brigham City, Utah on February 3, 1959, to LaRaine Lydia Hansen and Ellis Deloy Nelson.

He was raised and schooled there, attending Box Elder High, and obtaining his GED from Twin Rivers High School in Ogden.

Kim loved participating in motorcross racing and has several trophies from his youth. He also enjoyed fishing with his family and spending time at the family campground in Mantua.

In his early career, Kim worked as a mechanic for several companies including Merrill Bean. Kim had the ability to take an engine apart and rebuild it at the early age of sixteen. He could get just about anything to run with enough time. He worked on several family members vehicles, lawn mowers, ATVs throughout his life.

Eventually he became a Tool and gauge Inspector for Morton Thiokol, Autoliv, Petersons and Orbital ATK, retiring in 2017.

Kim loved to ride motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs - anything with wheels. Kim loved to travel with his family and enjoying a big chocolate cake during each family trip to Florida. His favorite trip was to Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii. Kim loved to watch his kids having a blast riding ATV’s, playing paintball, and sliding down the snowy roads at the family cabin in causey estates. Kim enjoyed his time at the cabin during all seasons, snowmobiling with our friends and driving the go cart around in the summer.

Kim will be remembered most for his dry sense of humor and his sarcasm. To many Kim came off as shy and quiet, to his family and friends he was funny and full of life.

On February 24, 1989, Kim married Garilyn Hipwell in West Weber, Utah. They had two children, Janica Kimberly and Logan Deloy. They spent 24 years together raising their children and traveling. They later divorced in 2013 and have remained great friends.

Kim is survived by his former spouse, Garilyn Hipwell Nelson, West Haven; daughter, Janica Nelson, West Weber; son, Logan Nelson, Roy; and by his sisters, Kathy Vavrickra and Becky Morgan, both of Ogden.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A special Thank You to Bristol Hospice.

A Memorial Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Community Center at Lindquist's Office Building, 3434 Washington Blvd. Cremation Care entrusted to Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary.
