It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kim Sun, who left this world on February 8, 2025, at the age of 21. Born on January 15, 2004, in Staten Island, New York, Kim was a beloved son, brother, and friend. He resided in
Greenville, South Carolina, where his spirit and passions came to life.
Kim was a dedicated machinist apprenticed at Magna International, honing his skills in the tool and die industry. A proud graduate of J.L. Mann High School, he demonstrated exceptional talent and leadership as one of the best drivers in the state for his VEX Robotics team, 3796A. He was also a current student at Greenville Technical College, passionately pursuing his academic and professional ambitions.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Kim was known for his adventurous heart and vibrant interests. He enjoyed taking long walks through downtown Greenville, immersing himself in the worlds of video games, and exploring the great outdoors through hiking and camping. His love for survivalism and urban exploration reflected his inquisitive nature, while his creative side blossomed through his terrariums. Many will remember him fondly for his passion in firearms and range shooting.
Kim is survived by his loving parents, Kong Hiek Chea and Chivin Sun, and his cherished brothers, Kenny Sun and Kevin Sun. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, curiosity, and passion that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2024 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Sun Family Cemetery in Clinton, South Carolina, where Kim will be laid to rest.
