Aurora Sun Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Inc. - Springfield on Jan. 5, 2026.
Aurora Dy Lim Sun, 83, born Jan. 17, 1942 in Manila, Philippines, passed away on Jan. 2, 2026 in Springfield, MO, surrounded by her loving family.

Aurora came to the States in 1967 for graduate school at the University of Oklahoma, where she earned her Master's Degree in Library Science. She served as a librarian for NYC's Public Library and then at St. John's School of Nursing. Wanting to make sure she could raise her family well, she later became a businesswoman in the restaurant industry. While working full-time days, she attended evening classes to earn her Master's Degree in Business Administration from Missouri State University.

Aurora is survived by her husband Dr. Woodrow Sun; her children Annie (husband Michael), Amy (husband Rob), and Andy; her four grandsons Devin, Peyton, Nash, and Duke; and many extended family members.

She was a trailblazer – the first of her family to come to the States – and paved the way for her mother, siblings, nieces and nephews to immigrate and make new lives for themselves, many of whom still live in the Springfield, MO area.

She loved watching sports and always rooted for the underdog. In her later years, watching foreign dramas was a favorite pastime. A devoted Christian, mother, grandmother and wife, she was also a phenomenal cook and taught her family how to love unconditionally.

A viewing will be held at 3 pm, followed by a funeral service at 4 pm on Jan. 17 at Brentwood Christian Church, 1900 E. Barataria St. (65804). Rev. Emily Bowen-Marler will be officiating.

Memorial donations in Aurora's memory may be directed to Brentwood Christian Church.
