It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life fiercely lived that we announce the passing of Kimberly Allison Cornett, who left us peacefully on March 6, 2026, at the young age of 45. Following a two-year struggle with a rare and aggressive cancer, Kim passed at home, enveloped in love and comfort, with her family and cherished kitties by her side.
Born on December 28, 1980, in
Corpus Christi, Texas, Kim was the first-born daughter of John Cornett and Karen Lenken Daley. Her journey through life was marked by an extraordinary blend of curiosity, creativity, humor, and dedication to her family, friends, and her chosen vocation. Kim was preceded in death by her loving grandparents Oran Cornett, Margaret Makin Gibello, and Philip Lenken, step-grandparents Wanda Sanders Cornett and Marcel Gibello, and stepfather Joseph Daley.
Kimberly shared a joyful life with her devoted husband, Andrew De La Rosa, who she married on June 12, 2010. For nearly sixteen years, Kim and Andy took care of each other, laughed and joked with each other, and built a welcoming home. Alongside her husband, she is survived by her father John Cornett, mother Karen Lenken Daley, sister Andrea Cornett and her husband Daniel Davis, her beloved nephew Sebastian Plumb and his partner Samuel Driscoll, and little Angelia Cantar Cornett, her half-sister. Her grandmother, Margaret Wendel Lenken, aunts Laura Cornett Kneer (Gary), Kathy Jones (Cris), Karolyn Abbott (Curtis), and Tina Rader (Karl) also continue to celebrate her life and memory, as do numerous younger cousins.
Kimberly graduated from Mary Carroll High School in 1999. Her passion for understanding and helping others led her to earn an Associate of Arts in Psychology from Del Mar College, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Science degree in Counseling from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. Her professional life was dedicated to supporting those in need as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor, offering her expertise at Bayview Behavioral Health Hospital in 2021, and at Charlie Health in 2022. Additionally, she maintained a thriving private practice, where her clients benefited from her empathetic and insightful guidance.
Kimberly was a woman of eclectic interests. An avid reader and film buff, Kim loved horror, Halloween, and camp. Her taste ranged from thrilling and suspenseful to cheesy and tasteless. She also enjoyed gatherings with family and friends, especially Halloween parties and Christmas dinners. Kim was the life of the party at outdoor barbecues, concerts, beach hangouts, and she dominated karaoke night.
From early childhood, Kim loved animals and none were more important to her than the famous "Cornett" cats - a collective of cats that included her own, her sister's, a stray here and there, and any other cat in need.
Kim's nurturing spirit and boundless love left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service for allowing them to honor Kim in a manner befitting her Halloweenie spirit.
In celebrating Kimberly's life, we remember her as a beacon of humility and compassion, a woman who touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will forever illuminate our hearts, reminding us of the profound impact of a life lived with love, generosity, and service.
