Kimberly Layhee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. - Peru on Sep. 26, 2024.
Kimberly E. Layhee,
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kimberly E. "Kim" Layhee on September 25, 2024. Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and aunt.
Kim was born on October 1, 1957, the daughter of Norris H. Bradley and Flora "Pug" (Baker) Bradley. She graduated from Beekmantown CS and BOCES in 1975. She then attended Our Lady of Victory where she received a degree in Secretarial. She used that degree when she lived in Texas. After moving back to her most loved ADK Mountains she met and fell in love with William "Bill" Layhee, often stating he was the best thing that ever happened to her. They married September 15, 1985 and recently celebrated their 39th Anniversary, together 42!
Their son Adam William was born in December 1985. He is their pride and joy and was so wanted and loved by both his parents. A stay at home mom, when Adam started school, so did Kim! She attended Clinton Community College, then transferred to Plattsburgh State where she earned her teaching degree in Special Ed and Reading (1994) and Masters in 1996, while teaching in the Saranac Central School District, specifically Morrisonville Elementary. Oh how she loved her kids! Kim taught special ed and reading for 13 years before she was forced into early retirement due to a stage 3 cancerous, inoperable brain tumor in August 2003. 21 years she fought, she was known as their miracle patient at Fletcher Allen – her prognosis was 3-5 years!
In Kim's spare time she enjoyed camping when Adam was young, family trips to OOB, Maine, flower gardening, scrap booking, reading and a really good smut book.
The last 5 years have been really tough for her and Bill has been absolutely amazing, always by her side and making sure she had whatever she needed. He spoiled her rotten for that we will be forever grateful.
Kim is survived by her loving husband, Bill; her son, Adam and his fiancée, Anna LaHart; mother, Pug Bradley; sisters, Sherry Brewster, Shelly Pickman (Howard); brothers-in-law, Jim Layhee (Wanda), Chuck Layhee (Maureen); sisters-in-law, JoAnn Layhee (John McDonald), Judy Layhee and Sandra Layhee; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and also special childhood life-long friend, Cathy Stewart Forget.
She is preceded in death by her father, Norris Bradley; brothers-in-law, Jack, Jeff, and Rich "Stan" Layhee; sisters-in-law, Cindy and Lisa Layhee; and in-laws, Charles and Edna Layhee.
At Kim's request services will be private. A celebration of her life will be held at the Saranac/Redford American Legion on October 7, 2024 at 4:30 pm.
Kim was tough as nails and the bravest most courageous woman we knew. She will be deeply deeply missed by all those who knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff at Saranac Lake Hospital, her neurologist Alisha Thomas from Fletcher Allen and Dr. William Pelton.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Kimberly Layhee may be made to the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad or Mother Cabrini Shrine candle fund.
Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 518-643-9055.

Kim worked at Morrisonville Elementary when my son was going to school. She was a wonderful teacher, very caring and always had a smile.
