Kimberly Susan Ratliff Main departed this life on March 4, 2024 to the welcoming embrace of her Dad, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and beloved family members who journeyed before her.

Kim led a life of joy and gratitude. She was indiscriminate in sharing her infectious laughter, quick wit, words of encouragement, and deeds of support with all those around her. Kim loved life. She enjoyed travel to Hawaii, leaving footprints on Rosemary Beach FL, swimming with dolphins, spending family time in the “pinecone forest”, attending rock and roll concerts with her daughter (especially Bob Seger), and spontaneous midnight joy rides with her son. Her sites were set on travel to the Isles of Ireland and Scotland, and to Finland to take in the Northern Lights. Cloud formations and rainbows never escaped her keen eye and ready camera.

Kim came from a long line of love. Her faith and hope carried her through the challenges in life with courage, strength, and grace.

Kim was born to Patricia G Clevinger Ratliff and David F. Ratliff of Maxie, Va on Sept 23, 1969. She married the love of her life, Bert G. Main on Valentine’s Day 1998. They consider their greatest blessing and treasure to be the gift of their children, Madison Kathleen Main and Mason David Main.

Kim was a graduate of Grundy Senior High School, class of ’87. She completed her undergraduate studies at King College and Radford University with a BS degree in Speech Pathology,1991. She furthered her education with a Master’s in Speech Pathology from Radford University,1993.

During Kim’s career she provided speech language therapies in various venues, including Home Health services in Lumberton NC, rehabilitation services at Carilion Hospital in Roanoke VA, and early intervention therapies in Lewisburg WV. She was especially proud of her role in this interdisciplinary team that established the first fully integrated intervention program for children with special needs in the state.

Kim derived great satisfaction from her chosen career, but she viewed motherhood as her greatest calling and accomplishment in life. For that reason, she paused her professional career in order to devote herself to the care and nurturing of her family.

Originally from Virginia and Tennessee, Kim and Bert chose to raise their family in Fort Smith, Arkansas, a community that welcomed them 26 years ago. Bert, Madison and Mason would like to express heartfelt gratitude for the love and care from their family and friends, the kindness of neighbors and acquaintances, and the immeasurable support of Mercy Fort Smith Hospital colleagues.

Kim continues to inspire those on this side of Life’s journey to KEEP ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF LIFE!

A celebration of life for Kimberly will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with family and Tom Crise officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where pallbearers will be Tim Ratliff, Jeff Ratliff, Reid Ratliff, Tom Stiltner, David Delaney, John Clevinger, Denise Corby Flasco, Lynn Ratliff, Carla Ratliff McCurdy, and Lisa Delaney Rife.
