Koby Layne Hunter, 21, went to his heavenly home on February 8, 2025, after a snowboarding accident at Angel Fire Resort in New Mexico. Born January 14, 2004, in Bryan, Texas, Koby was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend deeply loved by many.
Koby graduated from Boerne High School in 2022; he was an exceptional athlete. He competed in football, basketball, baseball, track and field, welding, and bass fishing. Koby was selected by the Texas Sports Writer's Association as a first team All-State Class 4A Tight End his senior year. One of his proudest accomplishments was building a hunting rack, winning the metal division in Ag Mechanics at the Kendall County show. After graduating high school, he completed his pilot's license in Fredericksburg, Texas, and was continuing his pilot's education in San Angelo, Texas. Koby had a love of being in the sky and planned on becoming a commercial pilot. Since he was a little boy, he loved going fast, making flying the perfect career path. When Koby wasn't flying or competing, he was in a field somewhere with his friends or family trying to take down his next big buck or catch his next big bass. He enjoyed being at the ranch with his grandparents and was always a country boy at heart. He loved the outdoors most when he was in the company of his loved ones.
Koby's identity was in Christ. He was baptized in 2004 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Parish in College Station and completed First Communion at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne. In April 2022, Koby attended a young men's Chrysalis in the Llano Estacado Emmaus Community at the Mercy Retreat Center in Slaton, TX where he deepened his relationship with God. While living in College Station, he attended St. Mary's Catholic Church and often visited the Bridge in Boerne. Most recently Koby was a regular attendee with his Opi at the Brushy Top Cowboy Church in Eldorado. Koby's unconditional love for Christ and kind spirit always set a wonderful example for friends and anyone he met to draw closer to the Lord. Koby demonstrated a joyful peace that always seemed to reflect that he knew, no matter what happened, he would be in heaven with the Lord someday.
Koby will be remembered for his infectious smile and charm, his larger-than-life personality, and his enormous heart. He loved spending time with his family and friends, he never met a stranger, and he gave everybody a chance. His warm laugh and kind heart will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Koby was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Rodney Hunter and maternal aunt Kari Beth Kohls. He is survived by his loving mother, Kaci Hunter; father, Kyle Hunter (Cryss); sister, Kaylee Beth James (Will), brother, Kade Hunter (London), sister, Kyra Hunter (Logan), and brother, Wyatt Hunter; maternal grandparents, Norman and Kathy Kohls; paternal grandparents, Tommy and Melinda Hunley; Aunt Kallie York (Brian), Aunt Kayla Rathmann (Ryan), Aunt Rachel Reiss (John), Aunt Tara Meyers (Brandon), Aunt Leslie Pickett (Charlie), Uncle Austin Hunter (Kristen), and Uncle Chris Phillips (Madolyn); and numerous cousins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 6:30 p.m. at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, and subsequently, he will be laid to rest in the Sisterdale Cemetery in Sisterdale, TX.
Koby we will miss you greatly but will see you on the other side. "Well done my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord." Matthew 25:23
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Llano Estacado Emmaus Community, ATTN: Chrysalis, P.O. Box 65116 Lubbock, TX 79464. To leave condolences for the family and to view a video of Koby's life, please visit www.ebensberger-fisher.com.
