Woodley Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is caring for Korey and his family. Korey Jon Meinders was born on May 18, 1965 to Kenneth and Carolyn (DeVries) Meinders in Hampton, Iowa. Korey graduated from Ackley-Geneva High School class of 1983. He attended Ellsworth Community College. On September 16, 1995 Korey was united in marriage to Dawn Maree' Reeves in Ackley, Iowa. Korey enjoyed staying busy. He worked in ag retail his entire adult life. He built many connections throughout his career. Korey also found joy in handcrafting flags. You can find his flags in just about every county, and probably every state. Many were requested, but even more were donated. Korey spent most of his spare time caring for others, which included, but was not limited to, serving on the church council at St. John's, flipping burgers for the Sons of the American Legion, volunteering for various tasks for Sauerkraut Days, announcing sporting events at AGWSR High School and serving on City Council, Dollars for Scholars and the AGWSR Mat Club. Korey's true legacy came from the relationships that he formed with the people he met. Whether he was at the local gas station or across state lines while driving to Nebraska, he always knew someone. They were always a friend to him. He always went out of his way to make others feel welcome. If you were new to the group or family, you could count on Korey being the first one to get to know you and make you feel special. Anyone who drove by the house always knew they could stop by the garage, where you would often find Korey crafting flags, grilling, or "greasing the windmill" with his friends. Korey was a family man at heart. At a young age, he became the patriarch of the Meinders family. Korey married the love of his life, Dawn, in September of 1995. They spent their 24 years of marriage building flags, gardening and raising their two sons, Clay and Caleb. Korey was incredibly proud of his boys. He never missed a sporting event, ensured they were well fed and always taught them to be kind. He loved them dearly and will continue to watch over them. Korey always cooked an omelet breakfast for his family on Memorial Day. He proudly placed last in every annual Meinders Family Pumpkin Carving Contest. Korey is also known for cheating in every game at family events. One of his most memorable victories was during the family's 3-legged race, where he picked up his niece and carried her across the finish line. In July of 2024, Korey was blessed when his granddaughter Kennie was born. He loved spending time with her and watching her grow. He will continue to look down on her fondly. Over the last few years, Korey has enjoyed traveling to new places with his partner, Dulci Arends. They enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren, working on various projects around their homes, gardening and hanging out with their friends. In reality, we could go on about how Korey impacted and cared deeply for those around him. Everyone fortunate enough to meet Korey felt as if they were his best friend. Korey Meinders is survived by his sons, Clayton (Kelli) Meinders of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Caleb (Brianna) Meinders of Waterloo, Iowa; granddaughter, Kennie Marie; sister, Krista (Bruce) Dieken of Ackley, Iowa; brother, Greg (Chasity) Meinders of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; girlfriend, Dulci Arends of Ackley, Iowa.
