Kraig Kirk Kelican, 62, of Stephens City, VA passed away September 21, 2023 at Inova Fairfax Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born October 18, 1960 in Charlestown, WV the son of the late Jerry Lee and Ann Marie Kirk Kelican.
Kraig was a 1979 graduate of James Wood High School where he received the Anderson Scholarship which awarded him a full ride to Virginia Tech. He graduated from Virginia Tech with his Bachelor's Degree and then went on to attend George Mason University where he received his Master's Degree. Kraig began his teaching career at Fauquier High School in 1985 as an Agricultural Teacher. While being the AG Teacher he also found himself very involved with the FFA Program at the school. He then moved onto Assistant Principal in 1997 and in 2020 found himself becoming the Principal of the school he so dearly loved. His entire teaching career, spanning over 35 years, was dedicated to Fauquier High School. He truly loved his job, his co-workers and the entire Falcon Family. He would be sure to tell each student he encountered on a daily basis to "Make Today A Great Day And Everyday Because It's Important". He would also want us to remember and never forget the Fauquier High School Motto "We Believe Always Believe".
Kraig absolutely loved horticulture always having plenty of plants around the house. Anytime there was a sale on plants, Kraig was sure to be there. He was also a car enthusiast, enjoyed being on his boat, going to the beach especially North Myrtle Beach and loved when the Winchester Apple Blossom Season would come around. He would always make sure his seats were set up in plenty of time to be able to watch and enjoy the parade. Kraig enjoyed going to amusement parks and riding the wooden roller coasters, loved to cook for his family and friends, loved all animals, was very patriotic and could always be found tinkering and fixing things. He was very intrigued on seeing how things worked. Above all else, his family was everything to him. He cherished the times they were able to spend together and would always look forward to those family gatherings.
In addition to his parents Jerry and Ann, Kraig was also preceded in death by his brother Korey Kelican and his father in law Harold D. Anderson.
Kraig is survived by his loving wife of over 30 years Susan Anderson Kelican whom he married on October 8, 1988; his daughter Kaitlin Kelley (Nick); his son Kasey Kelican (Leanne); grandchildren Addison and Cohen Kelley and McKinley Kelican; sister Kendra Kelican Madigan; brother Kris Kelican; mother in law Sandra Anderson; brother in law Don Anderson (Becky); his loving nieces, nephews and many dear friends and his faithful companion, his dog Luna.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Visitation on Saturday (Sept 30) from 6-8pm as well as his Celebration of Life Service on Sunday (Oct 1) at 2:00pm with Father Brian Shoda officiating. Both will be held at the Omps Funeral Home, 1600 Amherst St., Winchester, VA. Following the service on Sunday there will be a continued time of food and fellowship in the Omps Reception Center. Interment will be private. If you are unable to attend Kraig's services at Omps, his family will also be planning another Memorial Service to celebrate him at Fauquier High School at a later date.
