It is with a heavy heart that the family of Kristi Myree Petersen announces her peaceful passing on July 7, 2025, in Pierre, South Dakota. Kristi was born on June 7, 1955, to her mother, Correne (Vickmark) and the late William "Bill" Petersen.
Kristi grew up in Pierre and graduated from Riggs High School in 1973. Kristi went on to proudly serve her country as she entered the United States Army in 1974. She was honorably discharged after five years of decorated service at home and abroad.
Kristi was a beacon of kindness and generosity, touching the lives of those around her with her creative spirit and a heart full of compassion. For many years, she dedicated herself to Lake County as a rural mail carrier, a job that allowed her to be an integral part of daily life in the areas lived. Her colleagues and customers will remember her warm smile and the thoughtful conversations that brightened their days.
A lover of the natural world, Kristi found solace in the beauty that surrounded her. Her fondness for pets, especially dogs, was coupled with her passion for horticulture and the intricate art of stained glass creation. These interests were both an expression of her artistic soul and a testament to the creative energy she embodied.
Kristi's love extended to her beloved family. She is survived and eternally cherished by her mother, Correne, her three sons, Travis (Hayley), Jared, and Aaron (Andrea) Reynolds, her beloved grandchildren Xzavier Reynolds and Bridger Reynolds, her siblings Cheri (Robert Lee) Torrence, Eric (Dee DuBois) Petersen, and Karlah Kyle. Her life was shared with the memory of those who preceded her in passing: her father, William "Bill" Petersen, her daughter, Nicole Myree Reynolds, and her nephew, Matthew Obed Petersen.
Kristi's legacy of creativity, generosity, and kindness will continue to flourish in the memories of all who knew her. Her spirit will persist in the landscapes she loved, the art she left behind, and the family she adored.
