Kristina Gitschlag Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown Funeral Home - Burlington on Mar. 27, 2026.
Kristina Lea (Weis) Gitschlag passed away on March, 26, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado, while holding hands and singing Amazing Grace with her loved ones. She was 53 years old.

Kristina was born on September 8, 1972 to Gerald Sr. and Charlotte Weis at St. Joseph on the Plains Hospital in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado by Dr. Keefe. She went to Arapahoe School in Arapahoe, Colorado where she attended Kindergarten through 5th grade. In 1982 the family moved to Stratton, Colorado where she graduated from Stratton High School in 1990. She went on to attend 1 year of college at Fort Morgen College, Ft. Morgan, CO for Nanny. After which she moved back to Stratton to assist in caring for her mother. She then moved to Burlington where she met David Gitschlag. On August 9, 1996, she married David Gitschlag at Parmer Park in Burlington, CO. To this union 2 sons were born, Conner Quinton 1/14/97 and Alexander (Alex) Duncan 6/8/99.

In the fall of 1998, she moved to Linda, CA. Here she took care of her ailing mother Charlotte, until Charlotte's passing on December 31, 1998. In February of 2002, Kristina moved back to Colorado Springs, Colorado. At this time, she started working at Wal-Mart as an overnight stocker. She worked her way up through Department manager to HR manager at Monument, CO. Her Wal-Mart career lasted about 18 years. At this time, she moved around a couple of times till she found her home at Walgreens where she worked as an Inventory Management Specialist with a Pharmacy Tech Certification, until her diagnosis of Melanoma Cancer on 2/2/2026. She fought Melanoma Cancer hard for 2 months and lost the battle on 3/26/26.

Kristina LOVED her hobbies. She was an avid reader. Some of her favorite authors were Nora Roberts, John Grisham and J.D. Robb. You could find her in her room reading one of her hundreds of books over and over again. If she wasn't reading, look for a crochet hook in her right hand. She loved sitting in her chair listening to her music or listening to a movie play while crocheting. She would watch YouTube and try out a new pattern. She has made every one of her siblings a toilet paper doll cover. She would make gnomes, blankets, hats, scarves, even some booties. She even made a Christmas tree for work one year.

One of her past times was cooking. She has a box full of recipes. Baking was a passion of hers especially during the holidays. Ask anyone about her Brittle, Moose Tracks, Lemon Squares or even her Gluten free chocolate cake. Anytime there was a potluck at work, the employees went to her and would ask "What are you bringing?" She loved to make people happy. While at work she always had her Music. She loved ALL types of music. Some of her favorites being Country, (especially Gospel). When it was truck day at Walgreens, everyone used her playlist to unload trucks. Then there were her Movies. She owned over 286 movies to which she would watch over and over. One of her favorites as of late was Journey to Bethlehem. Then there was her painting. She especially liked her acrylic paints. There are several of her canvas' on display around the home. She even painted a mural on her bedroom wall.

Now for her most favorite past time and the enjoyment of her life - her pets. Bear is a mini pin. He would hop into the pet wagon, and they would go for a stroll. They were seldom apart. They would go up to Palmer Park and wonder for hours. When they got back home, Doc (orange tabby) and Gus (grey tabby) were waiting for her. She would get their treats out and then off to one of the many hobbies she had going on at that time. These were the loves of her life next to the Old Mule and her boys. She loved life more than life itself.

Family Gatherings - that is a whole page in itself. Anytime the family got together there was always a game to play, a story to tell and of course LAUGHTER! She would play Cribbage with Mom, Gin with Gerald or 500 Rummy with the whole family. Oh Shucks was another favorite game. We would play for hours. Once at home she would get out the Scrabble, Risk or Yahtzee games to play.

Kristina was the greatest mother a son could ask for. She was a loving sibling and a wonderful Aunt to many nieces and nephews and a very proud God Mother to a beautiful little girl. Most of all she loved Jesus Christ. Her faith in him got her through some of the toughest challenges in life. She is now at home with him for eternity.

She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her brother John Leonard Weis (1985) her mother Charlotte Virginia (Houston) Weis (1998), former husband David Gitschlag (2024), Maternal Grandparents Betty Pauline (McKinney) and John Roland Houston, Paternal grandparents Ruth Marie (Cole) and Albert Leonard Weis.

She is survived by her sons Conner Gitschlag and Alex Gitschlag of Colorado Springs, CO; extended family member Ray Juarez of Colorado Springs, CO; Father Gerald Sr. (Sharon) of Goodland, KS; siblings; Jim Weis (1st wife Betty, children Christine, James, Jerry. 2nd wife Eilean, children Rocky and Arlene Clark, Tammy Mangus, Sandy and Ron Dreitz, Mike and Lori Clark, and Diane (Dede) and Ty Toner. 3rd wife Nena, children Nathan and Janena) of the Philippines; Charlotte Darlene (David), children Katrina (Marley, Christian, Charlotte, and Trinity,) Tabitha, Chandele (Izzy) of Norcatur, KS; Sandra (Sandy) (children Dustin and Nicole (Dane, children Noelle, Dylan and Kaylee) Rona (Robert, children Jonathan) of Eau Claire, WI; Gerald Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO.
