Kurt Malmstrom Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beach Funeral Home - East - Satellite Beach on Mar. 3, 2025.
Kurt G. Malmstrom passed away on February 27, 2025, at his home in Satellite Beach after a lengthy battle with leukemia. He is now at peace, having met Jesus face to face. While his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his legacy of integrity, service, and excellence will continue to live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
Kurt dedicated his life to service, both in uniform and beyond. He joined the United States Air Force in 1977, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2000. His final active-duty assignment was with DDMS, the manned space flight support group at Patrick AFB, where he played a vital role in ensuring the safety of human spaceflight. Following his military retirement, he continued his mission of service as a civil servant with the Air Force Technical Applications Center, where his work in space and missile defense contributed to the prevention of global nuclear threats through instant attribution.
Beyond his professional achievements, Kurt will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and "Papa." He was the cornerstone of his family, always emphasizing that integrity and keeping one's word were non-negotiable. He was incredibly proud of his sons, Justin and Jordan, and his grandchildren, Sage, McKinley, Sylvi, Everett, and Landon, delighting in their successes and filling their childhoods with love, wisdom, and, of course, a few well-timed Papa jokes.
Kurt's sense of humor was legendary. He was known for his patience, generosity, and, smile in even the toughest of times.
Kurt was proud of his Catholic faith, having converted 25 years ago. He was a member of the Parish Advisory Council at St. George Catholic Community and a Eucharistic Minister. When asked by the kind doctors and nurses if his affairs were in order, he always replied that he was at peace with the Lord and was a good Catholic.
Outside of work and family, Kurt had a passion for woodworking, golf, travel, fine food and wine. He was a proud member and officer of la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, an esteemed international gastronomic society, which reflected his appreciation for culinary excellence and camaraderie. He believed that a great meal, much like a great life, was best when shared with loved ones.
Kurt's legacy is one of unwavering service, love, and humor. He will be missed deeply but remembered with fondness and gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sara; his sons, Justin and Jordan; his daughters-in-law, Abby and Tasha; and his beloved grandchildren, Sage, McKinley, Sylvi, Everett, and Landon.
Service Information is as follows:
Date: Thursday, March 13 at 10:00.
Funeral mass, military honors and reception to follow, St. George Catholic Church, South Patrick Chapel, PSFB.
In lieu of flowers, please either make a donation to your favorite charity in Kurt's name or wait to donate to the soon to be founded "Malmstrong Foundation" a generational philanthropic vehicle.
His life was one of purpose, laughter, and love-a life well-lived, and a man well-loved.

Prayers for Kurt and his family. I am so grateful to have known Kurt, beginning years ago as a fellow cadet in Air Force ROTC. He demonstrated service over self. I'm saddened, yet know there's goodness to be found even in loss.
