Kurt Arthur Schumann

Kurt Arthur Schumann passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, in Edina, Minnesota, with his beloved wife, Connie, by his side, after living with the challenges of Parkinson's disease since 2017. He was just days away from his 77th birthday.
Kurt was born on May 3, 1948, in Melrose Park, Illinois, and spent much of his early life in Eagle, Wisconsin, and South Beloit, Illinois. He later moved to Delafield, Wisconsin, where he worked in his family's bakery, Schumann's Bakery. His time there helped shape his lifelong love of good food-especially donuts. He graduated from Oconomowoc High School in 1966.
Kurt went on to graduate from St. Olaf College in 1972 with a degree in English and later pursued graduate studies in Communication Theory at the University of Minnesota. He began his career at Post Publications and later served as a Marketing and Sales Manager for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Later in his career, he found great joy as a location manager for the Johansen Bus Company, which eventually became First Student. Kurt had a natural gift for managing people and budgets, and he approached leadership with both skill and compassion. His kindness and gentle spirit touched many lives during his time there. Kurt retired in 2014 after over 22 years of service in the school bus transportation industry.
Kurt was a devoted Green Bay Packers fan and a man who loved the outdoors. He found peace in nature, treasured time at deer camp with close friends, and often walked the trails of the Landscape Arboretum. He had a tender heart and a deep appreciation for music, travel, wildlife, and the quiet joy of a good book or a challenging puzzle.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Schumann; his children, Erik Schumann (Faith) and Leah Schumann (Aaron); his stepdaughter, Jill Mikelson (Jason); his stepsons, Adam Mikelson (Brittany), Benjamin Mikelson (Karen), and Thomas Mikelson (Meghan); his grandchildren, Noah, Isaac, Malcolm, and Colbie; and his two sisters, Renee Johnson (Dave) and Suzy Barczak (Greg).
Kurt's warmth, humor, and signature "toodle-oo" will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, at Peace Lutheran Church in Bloomington, MN. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church, one hour prior to the service.
