Kurt B. Sogn

Kurt B. Sogn, 61, Barnesville, MN, died unexpectedly on January 1, 2025, at his residence. 

Kurt was born to Kenneth and Berdella (Malingen) Sogn on August 9, 1963. He grew up east of Barnesville on the Sogn family farmstead. Kurt graduated from Barnesville High School in 1981, and started work in the family business, Sogn and Sons Gravel, at the age of 13.

 On March 14, 1987, Kurt married the love of his life, Kathy. They were happily married for 37 years. In 1990, he began farming with his in laws. Shortly after, Aly was born. In 1992, Brad was welcomed into the world. They established themselves in Baker, MN, surrounded by many friends and family. Kurt enjoyed several hobbies throughout the years, including remote control car racing, hunting, fishing, woodworking, snowmobiling, and flying remote control airplanes and helicopters, to mention a few. Kurt had three granddaughters and one grandson that meant the world to him. He rarely ever told them the word "no." He enjoyed taking the kids on ranger rides, building forts, and playing hide and go seek (though it was a challenge for him, being six foot six!) The memories made together will be cherished forever. Kurt and Kathy attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin throughout their marriage. He served on many boards and in various capacities. Kurt's quick wit and infectious laughter will be missed greatly. His ability to diffuse any situation with encouragement and laughter was a rare and beloved quality. Kurt is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter, Aly (Chris) in Fargo ND; son, Brad (Megan) in St Cloud, MN; and his grandchildren, Amaya, Freya, Addie, and Olie. In addition, he is survived by one sister, Belinda in Fergus Falls, MN; one brother, Dave (Bert) in Pelican Rapids, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Berdella Sogn; mother-in-law, Fern Hansen; brother-in-law, Ole Myhre; sister-in-law, Cindy Sogn; and brother-in-law, Roger Hansen.

Visitation for Kurt will be Monday, January 6, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin, MN from 5pm -7pm followed by a Prayer Service at 7pm. His funeral service will be Tuesday, January 7 at 11am in Trinity Lutheran Church, Sabin. He will be laid to rest in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
