Madison - Melissa Sogn, age 60, of Madison, died Sunday October 6, 2024, at UW Health University Hospital from a brain hemorrhage. Born Melissa Kay Kong on January 25, 1964, in Madison, WI, to Orlin and Arlene (Quam) Kong. Melissa had an adventurous childhood starting with her first job working in the tobacco fields on her Uncle’s farms. It gave her a love for flowers and the outdoors, but most of all, a love for horses. She had ponies and rode horses throughout her life. Melissa also had a deep connection to her Norwegian heritage and a passion for music. She played handbells and sang in the choir with great joy. Melissa graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 1982. She worked many other jobs in her life including; Royal Publishing Co., a phone operator for people with hearing disabilities, Hertz rent a car, Union Cab and most recently, a loving crossing guard. Melissa was a sweet and kind person to everyone she knew. Meeting Mark Sogn put a sparkle in her eye and soon they were married on August 12, 1989. They had a wonderful life together focused on raising their two sons: Nicholas and Jeremy. Melissa was an amazing mom and cared deeply for her children. She also stayed connected to both sides of her family; the Quams and the Kongs. Melissa had a gentle side that showed in all she planned. She enjoyed many get-togethers and trips with her dear friends. Melissa was preceded in death by her parents, Orlin and Arlene Kong, and brother-in-law, Randall Stulken. She is survived by her husband, Mark; sons, Nicholas and Jeremy; brothers, Jeff (Julie) Kong and Peter (Lori) Kong; sister, Lana Stulken; many nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
Please join us at Cress Funeral Home, 206 W. Prospect St. Stoughton, WI 53589 for a celebration of life on November 8, 2024, at 11:00AM with Pastor Mark Marozick officiating. The visitation will be at 10:00AM. A funeral luncheon will be held after the service at the American Legion Hall in Stoughton.
