Kyle Gobrogge Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Dr. Kyle Gobrogge, a beloved son, brother, Professor, mentor, and friend. Known for his warmth, humor, strength, and passion for life. Kyle touched countless lives with his kindness, compassion, and genuine smile.

Kyle was born in Indio, California, and spent his early years in Yucca Valley. A bright and adventurous child, he enjoyed taking acting classes and even appearing in a car commercial. Kyle developed a lifelong love of bowling while his family owned a bowling alley. He also loved riding quads through the desert with his family. After the 1992 earthquake, the family relocated to Michigan to be closer to relatives, where Kyle grew up surrounded by family, love, and support. Living in Michigan gave Kyle the opportunity to be close to his grandparents, which they inspired him to have compassion for life and to succeed.

Kyle's curiosity and passion for learning led him to an extraordinary academic journey. Kyle attended Michigan State University for his undergraduate and went on to earn both an M.S. and Ph.D. in Neuroscience at Florida State University. After earning his Doctorates, he pursued research and teaching across institutions including Harvard Medical School, Tufts, and most recently, he was a Professor of Neuroscience at Northeastern University and Senior Lecturer at Boston University, where teaching became his greatest joy. He was deeply admired by his colleagues and cherished by his students, who remember him not only as a brilliant professor, but also as a caring mentor who made learning exciting and meaningful.

Outside of the classroom, Kyle was full of life. He loved travelling the world both for vacations and giving lectures to people among his field. He embraced every adventure with enthusiasm, whether exploring new places, enjoying time with family, or simply sharing his humor and energy with those around him, Kyle was always up for anything.

Kyle is survived by his loving mother, Barbara Mowbray; his father Gerald Gobrogge; and his sister, Sara Gobrogge. His legacy lives on in the love he gave, the knowledge he shared, and the many lives he shaped. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday October 3, 2025, at 11:00am at Resurrection of the Lord Church, with Rev. Fr. Tom Held presiding. Friends may visit at the Church from 10:00am until the time of service. Burial will follow in Sterling Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home in Standish.
