Kyle Puckett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery on Jul. 9, 2024.
Kyle Puckett, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. He was born in Evansville, Indiana in 1987 and preceded in death by his grandmas (Gail and Betty) and his grandpa (Robert). Some people reading this may have heard of Kyle's death and formed opinions, especially if they did not know him. As his parents, we want to take this opportunity to tell just a little about our son who was loved very much and was more than a news story. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, nephew, cousin, grandson, friend and, most importantly, he was the father to an amazing daughter.
Although it will never be long enough, we thank God we had him 36 years. He had a beautiful soul and a smile that would light up any room. Kyle grew up with his brother, Karum, and they were best friends throughout their lives. They loved coming up with different ways to marinade/grill steaks, play golf and do activities with their daughters. When Kyle was 9 he started carrying his dad's tool belt helping him on service calls. John had a small heating/air company and they provided service for many homes and businesses throughout the years. Kyle was very proud of the skills he learned from his father and the service they provided. John and Kyle could often be found around town at their favorite restaurants having breakfast or lunch.
Kyle's daughter Nixie was born seven years ago and was the light of his world. He enjoyed spending time with her swimming; they took trips to Holiday World often and they especially loved watching movies and shows together. He also liked watching her take swim lessons and learn to play soccer. Kyle used to laugh about having more nail polish at his house than most women – he painted her finger and toenails hundreds of times over the years. A few months ago, she told me out of the blue...my daddy is perfect. I remember looking at her and saying you think your daddy is perfect? She said yes he is perfect for me. I will never forget those words.
We would guess anyone that read the last paragraphs will wonder why his life ended as it did. This is the part of the story that cannot be captured in the words of an obituary. Kyle struggled with addiction and mental health issues over the years. His struggle became more difficult over the last several months due to a severe back injury and prescription medicine. We heard they shared his struggles in the news. However, we're sure what they didn't share is how Kyle tried and wanted to beat it. Nor will people ever be able to comprehend the love his family and friends have for him, how much we wanted to help him and how deeply we will miss him. Kyle will forever be loved by his father, John Puckett (Jayne); mother, Lee Ann Puckett; and brother, Karum Shehadeh (Kimberly); his niece Kynzlee; grandma Arline; aunts, uncles and cousins. And, the greatest love of his life, his daughter Nixie. He also had good friends that were there for him and tried to help. All our lives will forever be changed by losing Kyle, however, they're better for loving him and being loved by him. That is something a news story can never convey.
Visitation will be at Pine & Co, at 15901 Petersburg Road, Evansville, IN. on Saturday, July 13 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm with the service following at 3:00 pm with a private burial next to his grandpa at a later date. In lieu of flowers and in support of his daughter Nixie, memorial contributions may be made to a GoFund Me account that has been set up. To access the GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/37bf0e7d

Today would have been Kyle's 37 birthday. I stated our lives would be changed forever in his obituary. What I didn't truly understand was how much our lives would change or how much we would miss him. There isn't a day that goes by that he isn't in our thoughts most of the day. And,I miss him with ever thing in me my mind, soul and heart.

I miss simple things like his text in the morning telling me to have a good day. And, he was my best movie/series buddy I ever had. I miss watching shows with him and talking about them. I miss my son's grilling steak and hamburgers and admiring a new seasoning they tried. I miss watching Kyle hug and kiss his daughter. And, I miss his hugs...I miss my son.

My heart goes out to every family that loses a child or someone they love.

John was always ready and willing to lend a hand. His knowledge of heating and air amazing, last year figuring a maze of issues. We just learned of his passing and our hearts are heavy for his family.

I am so sorry to have missed Kyle's service yesterday. I was the neighbor that lived across the street from Kyle until I moved two years ago! I knew he was having some issues but he was always very friendly and ready to help! I could see that he loved his Nixie, he would bring her over and he would let her visit with me! He will surely be missed by all who knew him and his Nixie! Lord have mercy on his soul!

I had the honor of getting to know Kyle about 12 years ago. He worked on some AC units at my rental property and I knew immediately, he was someone I could trust to be around the property and my tenants apartments. He eventually started handling all of my family's HVAC installs and repairs as well as those of my friends. One of my friends passed away tragically and his wife needed to have their furnace inspected with winter approaching. She called the company they had used for years and was told by their technician that she needed a new system to the tune of $6500.00 plus. She was upset by this so I told her to hold tight and we would get Kyle to look at it. Kyle came the next morning and checked it out. $200.00 later and about 2 hours labor, Kyle had that old furnace up and running, warming that home, just as he did my friends heart. She is gone and the home was sold, but that old furnace was still in the home going strong. He recently helped a friend of mine who is a single mom and just bought her first home. Same scenario where someone told her she needed a new HVAC system. Kyle again, let his honesty and integrity be witnessed and repaired the unit for under $300.00. That was Kyle's way of doing things. He did them correctly, with honesty and did not steer any of his customers the wrong way. Kyle called me a few days before all of this went down and said he was selling the business after a failed attempt to collect a large amount of money from customers who were not paying their bills owed to Kyle. He said he cannot afford to carry their bill any longer and needed to go to work fulltime as he was tired of fighting with people to pay their bills owed to him. I cannot help but think that the 3 parties who owe him for his services, did not contribute to Kyles actions that day. He was at wits end with the entire issue he said. One of Kyles friends said last week after this all unfolded that "Kyle would give you the shirt off his back" and that could not be a more true statement. Kyle was not only the "perfect daddy", but a wonderful man, who cared about his customers and what he did. Rest Easy my friend and THANK YOU for all you did to help so many people. Know you will be missed terribly!

Dear John and Family:
I always thought of you and Kyle as part of my own family. Over the years, you and Kyle have helped us so many times with our rentals and our own homes. Your work together or independently was always professional, with clean installations and service. Kyle took care of all the service work at my home over the last 10 years. He educated himself on the service schedule and care of my whole house generator. I will truly miss his sweet personality and smile. May God bless you all, and especially Nixie, in the coming days and weeks.

I didn´t know your son But he is very handsome and sounds like he was a really good person. He will always be your granddaughter´s hero. If he had had his choice, my nephew´s Life would have ended this way last September. He survived his attempt with the police and is still struggling. Those who have been there are love people who have totally understand and feel a loving closeness for you, your family and your son. He was a good person, going through a hard times. God bless you and know that your son is with you and watching over you and his daughter.

Know very well what you are going thru. You see, I lost my son (45 yrs. old) last year to the same circumstances brought on by the medical profession trying to ease pain from an auto accident only to bring on something much much worse. My son and our family battled this for 8 years then the drugs won at 2 am in the morning from OD March 1st. 2022. Fentanyl was in the mix.
Kyle installed a new furnace for me recently at Hess Ave. in Evansville (where my son lost his life) and done other work thru the years at rental houses and my own home. Met you, John years ago where you installed a furnace on Rupper Ave. for me (you let me help you) ----- then I met Kyle and he was impressive and pleasant as well, you taught him well, John. Kyle was another you.
I hate this so much for your loss and what this is going to do to you from now on - this void is going to be terrible and the worst will be for the next year then it will ease up some. NO parent should have to go thru this, but he would want your life to go on. I mean all this with the upmost respect and sorrow.

To the Puckett family and close friends, I am so sorry for you loss. I am devastated at the news and cannot even imagine how you must feel. I've known Kyle, and his dad John, for many years as we all made our living in the HVAC industry. I remember he always carried himself in a professional manner and always treated me and others with respect. Kyle had a big heart and was so nice and thoughtful. I appreciate all the years I got to connect and interact with him. He will be dearly missed. Prayers for everyone effected by this tragedy.

Iam soo very sorry for your loss.
I am a neighbor that lives across the highway on Kerth Ave.
I heard the shots and said a prayer for him. I will always remember that afternoon.
May God give your family the strength to live your life without him.

I am truly sorry for your loss, words can't explain what you are going through, my husband's family went through this back in October with his neice, it is not how we expected things to end, she to struggled with mental health and addiction. Your story is amazing and what people read or heard about him is not who he is, my heart goes out to you and your family.
