Retired SCHP Lance Corporal, Carl Herbert Perry, 80, beloved husband of 53 years to Mamie Gardner Perry, died Saturday, January 18, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born February 13, 1944, in Greenville, SC, he was a son of the late James Herbert Perry and Mattie Bell Patrick Perry. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He retired from the South Carolina Highway Patrol with 29 years of service. He was a US Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Matthew Perry (Marie) of Scottsburg, IN; a daughter, Karla Prather (Paul) of Sumter; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Perry (Carolyn) of Mauldin, Richard Perry (Teresa) of Pickens; three sisters, Margaret Coleman of Travelers Rest, Sara Jo Hazel of Mauldin, and Lynn Perry of Greenville; three grandchildren, Kaitlin Pekuri (Aaron), Chase Prather, both of Sumter, and Amelia Perry of Scottsburg, IN; one great grandchild Truett Pekuri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances; and three brothers, Jimmy, Pat, and Bill.
A funeral Service will be held at 3 PM Thursday, January 23, 2025, in the Chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Moore, officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2PM – 3PM Thursday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers will be current and retired SC Highway Patrol and other Law Enforcement agencies.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Jodi Belinski, Amedisys Hospice, and the Nurses and staff of 3 South at Prisma Health Tuomey for the compassionate care they provided him.
Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2401 Bethel Church Rd., Sumter, SC 29154, or to a charity of one's choice.
