He leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Linda Johnston; children, LA "Joe" Johnston and his children, Sy, Kaylia, and Spencer; Todd (Marina) Johnston and their children, Mary Ann, Tina, Abigail, and Kimberly; Dena Johnston and her children, Joel and Camerin; Susan Lyday and her children, Darcy and Jaron; David (Deniz) Eubank and his daughter, Olivia; as well as Chuck's daughter, Sarah; sisters, Judi (Mike) Cowart and Kathy (Les) Radach; sister-in-law, Barbara (William) Denney; 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He will forever be remembered by his two buddies, Ellie (the greyhound) and BC (the black cat), who he adored.

L.A. was a retired aeronautic engineer with a passion for building and flying model airplanes. His greatest pride was in mentoring future enthusiasts of his loved hobby that kept him busy, sharp and young. You could easily spot him with his memorable trailer signage, "CAUTION: OLD MAN ON HIS WAY TO PLAY" as he loaded up his model airplanes and traveled around the country to SAM competitions to test his skills at flying.

L.A. taught many how to fly model airplanes demonstrating patience and tips on how to be a pro at the hobby. L.A. memorably shared his hobby with his granddaughter Olivia who loved the chance to make planes fly. Truth be told, the opportunity to spend quality time with her grandfather, "Baba", was the greatest gift of all.

L.A. shared his life with his loving wife Linda experiencing a meaningful, valuable and fulfilling life. L.A. weathered retirement both physically and mentally by keeping his mind, spirit and heart active.

Jim Harkreader, another flying enthusiast and good friend, said it was a privilege to know L.A. He highlights L.A.'s knowledge and passion to share his expertise with others.

The Radio Controlled Aircraft Communities, especially those of the 3 Local Clubs of which L.A. was the oldest member of each (The Music City Aviators, The Middle Tennessee Radio Controlled Aircraft Communities Society and the Middle Point R/C Flyers) will remember the good times and how L.A. gave of himself to share his passion.

L.A. would be pleased that he was able to influence another generation in his greatest passion to carry the torch forward.

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Brittany at Lebanon Health and Rehab for all of the love, care, and quality time she and L.A. spent together.
