Lales Lamond Martin, known as Lamond or “Monnie” by his family and friends, was born on September 14, 1942 in Mount Vernon, Indiana. He passed away on November 18, 2025 in Louisville, Kentucky where he previously lived.
Lamond attended Kentucky State University before ultimately earning an Associate’s Degree at IUPUI in Indianapolis. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served for 3 years in Germany. After serving his country, he worked in Indianapolis at the Metropolitan Housing Authority before establishing his own custom log home business, L. Martin Enterprises, in Nashville, Indiana. In addition to being a skilled builder who loved working with his hands, he was also an outdoor enthusiast. He loved fishing, often from the canoes he built himself, and was an avid supporter of the Sierra Club. He loved music, camping, cooking, and watching sports. Lamond served his community as a Brown County Sheriff for ten years and called Brown County home for over 30 years before his health required him to return to Louisville to receive medical care and be closer to family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Herschel and Carrie Martin, and his sister, Faye Hylton.
Lamond is survived by his children, Cara Martin, DonEarl Martin, Erica Martin, and Eric Martin; his grandchildren, Christopher Martin, Danny Larkin, Kelseigh Martin, Farrah Martin, and Van Martin; his siblings, Connie Unseld, Norvel “Butch” Martin (Mary Persley), Judge Janice Martin (Paul Porter), several cousins, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, November 29 at Newcomer East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Dr. Louisville, KY 40243. Visitation at 11:00am, service at 12:00 noon.
