LaMoyne DeBoard 90 of
Magnolia, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025, surrounded by her family at Summit Health and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor.
LaMoyne was born June 4, 1935, in Enfield, Illinois, to the late Carl Onas DeBoard and Mildred Maggie Josephine (Masoner) DeBoard.
Our Momma, LaMoyne, not only embraced the traditional role of wife and mother but stretched the boundaries of her era. She raised 7 children while living the gypsy-like life of a preacher's wife, moving from town to town. She forsook self while raising her babies and stifled her talents for many years. She often stated she was the most joyful when she was raising her babies. Who could have imagined that in her 40s and 50s she would begin writing poetry and painting? She captured the essence of many of her family members in portraits and poems. Sketches, oil paintings, pastels – she did it all. Her work resulted in much joy to her family and in many blue ribbons and best of shows.
Repeatedly through the years LaMoyne found herself in Magnolia Arkansas. Magnolia is where she first fell in love with finding a deal. This passion eventually culminated in her starting her own business. She was the owner and operator of The Tin Roof for many years. She was proud of this accomplishment and rightly so, sustaining herself and quite frequently many of her children. She was always there to help when one of us faced a crisis.
Momma was thrilled when people recognized her from her store. She would constantly hear how much her store meant to them. She made good deals and people could afford nice things from her store. She dearly loved Arkansas and Magnolia and the people here.
We all sat by momma in church and all knew what a beautiful singing voice she had. As a young girl she dreamed of being a singer. In her twilight years she was put on the spot to get up and sing a song. Her dream to perform was unleashed. She and Jimmy spent many hours singing and playing with friends in nursing homes and similar events.
In her later years, LaMoyne was surprised to discover a connection to ancestors who traveled on the Mayflower in 1620. It was proven that she was a descendant of three Mayflower passengers.
The impact she has had on her family and Magnolia will live on.
LaMoyne is preceded in death by her parents Carl and Josephine DeBoard; husband James Roy "Jimmy" Burns; granddaughter Amber Michele Johnson; and great granddaughter Carley Skye Johnson.
LaMoyne is survived by her children, Robin Shackelford of
Magnolia, Arkansas, Jenny Webb of Gallatin, Tennessee, Debbie Howie and husband George of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Becky Wilcox and husband Tom of Brandon, South Dakota, Stephen Hartsell and wife Denise of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Kerin Hartsell of
Magnolia, Arkansas, and Michael Hartsell and wife Stephanie of Keithville, Louisiana; 21 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; and a host of extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel with a visitation to follow.
