Lance Loland Walker, a devoted husband, father, Grampy, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2025, just two days shy of his 73rd birthday. Lance was known for his quick wit, his booming laugh, and his love of a good joke--especially when ribbing close friends. Above all, he will be remembered for his steadfast faith, boundless skills, and the selfless way he used those talents to help others.
Born to George Pearson Walker, Sr., and Dorothea Hoff Walker, who preceded him in death, Lance was raised in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, where he developed a love of learning and an innate ability to fix just about anything. He attended Marshall University in West Virginia and Mars Hill College in North Carolina, where he studied journalism. Lance is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Laurie Schulte Walker; his sons, Lee Thomas Walker (Amanda Crute Walker) and Andrew Christian Walker (Abby Koba Walker); and his cherished grandchildren, Leighton Emily Walker and Cade Andrew Walker. He also leaves behind his siblings, Garret Walker (Judy Walker), George P. Walker, Jr., and Mary Alice Walker, along with nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Lance's passion for classic cars, particularly Hudson automobiles, defined much of his life. He lovingly restored two Hudsons to pristine condition, amassed a treasure trove of parts, and created a website dedicated to helping fellow enthusiasts. Through his Hudson network, Lance forged countless friendships and became a trusted resource for advice and guidance on restoring these iconic cars.
After an early career in radio sales, Lance joined his family's business, The Walker-Kosh Co., as a sales representative in New Jersey. In 1984, he and Laurie moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where Lance continued his career before retiring at the age of 55. In retirement, he turned his passion for cars into a small business, selling Hudson parts to customers across the U.S. and abroad.
A man of deep faith, Lance served as a deacon at Grace Church, where he found great joy in supporting others and using his skills to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Later, his faith and commitment to service continued as an active member of Core Community Church. Whether fixing a broken appliance, maintaining a car, or assisting with home repairs, Lance was always ready to step in and make a difference. His generous spirit and tireless work ethic were a blessing to everyone who knew him.
Lance will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the laughter he shared, the lives he touched, and the legacy of faith and service he leaves behind.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am - 10:45am, Friday, January 17, 2025 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The memorial service will follow at 11:00am.
