Connie J. WALKER Obituary

Aug 13, 1945 - Jan 20, 2026

Connie Jo Walker (Buffington), age 80, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on January 20, 2026.

Born on August 13, 1945, in Burlington, Iowa, Connie was the daughter of Bruce and Bette Buffington. She was raised in Burlington, where she formed the strong foundation of family, friendship, and curiosity that would define her life.

Connie pursued higher education with determination and a lifelong love of learning, attending the University of Missouri and Seattle University before graduating from Eastern Washington University. On September 4, 1965, she married her beloved husband, Robert Walker. They shared 54 devoted years of marriage until Robert's passing in 2019.

During their early years together, Connie and Bob lived in New Jersey, Oklahoma, and Seattle before settling in Spokane, Washington, where they made their home for the past 52 years. Spokane became the place where she raised her family, built lasting friendships, and gave generously of her time and talents.

Connie was a dedicated mother to her three children: Melissa, Shannon, and Tyler. She was a proud and loving Nana to Andrew, Serra, Alex, Ava, and Emma, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her brother, Kent Buffington.

Professionally, Connie spent time working in freelance writing and editing. Her wisdom, love of words, and thoughtful perspective were evident in all she did.

Connie was deeply committed to supporting her children and being actively involved in their lives and activities. She volunteered extensively in programs connected to them, led the Manito Junior Golf program, coached youth sports, was a Camp-Fire leader, and devoted many years to volunteering with Ham on Regal. She gave her time generously and always brought positive energy and kindness.

Driven by an endless thirst for knowledge, Connie was a true lifelong learner, embracing curiosity and lively discussions. She was an avid reader and an active participant in three book groups. She loved games of every kind - word puzzles, Scrabble, Mahjong, and Bridge - and delighted in both the challenge and the companionship they provided. Her friends were deeply important to her, and she nurtured those relationships with warmth, humor, and unwavering loyalty.

Connie is reunited in peace with her husband, Robert Walker; her brother, Brad Buffington; and her parents, Bruce and Bette Buffington.

A funeral service celebrating Connie's life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 12:00 PM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 316 E 24th Ave. Spokane, Washington.

She will be remembered for her sharp mind, generous spirit, deep devotion to family, and the many friendships that enriched her life. Her legacy lives on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Civil Liberties Union at www.aclu.org - a cause Connie supported passionately in her belief in defending democracy.

Thank you, Connie. If not for you, for your expertise, your kindness, your time and your full support, my book would never have been published. Your passion about the state of our nation, and your FB shares of your Wordle and Connections success inspired me to near greatness in this games! I wish I would have spent more time with you eeking out all your knowledge and wisdom. Now I can´t, and that makes me sad.
