Laraine Susan Hombach (formerly Nigro), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on the evening of October 30, 2025, beside her husband, William Hombach, at her home in Purcellville, Virginia, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Queens, New York, to John and Barbara Nigro, Laraine grew up surrounded by family and community. She is survived by her devoted husband William Hombach, her loving children Bill Hombach (and wife Valerie Hombach) and Bobbi Hombach, and her cherished grandchildren Angelina, Alyssa, Tony, and Billy. She is also survived by her mother Barbara Nigro and her sisters Linda Miller, Cindy Nigro, and Bobbi Nigro. She was preceded in death by her father John Nigro and her brother Johnny Nigro.
Laraine lived in Naples, Italy, while supporting the Christian Servicemen's Center, where she was blessed to make many lifelong friends and meet William who was deployed by the U.S. Navy. William and Laraine married in 1976, moved to Montana to start their lives together, and later settled in Northern Virginia. Laraine spent over twenty five years as a dedicated Realtor, working as a buyers' agent because she loved helping people find their homes. She was among the founding members of the Bob Caines Team at RE/MAX, where her warmth, honesty, and tireless work ethic earned her the respect and affection of colleagues and clients alike.
Beyond her professional life, Laraine will be remembered for her generosity and the way she made everyone around her feel welcome and cared for. She found joy in simple moments–time spent with family, laughter around the kitchen table, and cheering on her grandchildren in all they did. The family loves to remember her competitive nature in absolutely everything she did–card games, billiards, or attending her grandchildren's sporting events. The stands may miss her voice, but her joy still carries through every game.
A memorial service with immediate family will be held at Cool Spring Natural Cemetery where loved ones will gather to celebrate Laraine's remarkable life and the love she shared so freely. The family will reach out to extended guests should they choose to hold a celebration of life after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Dominion High School Basketball, in support of a team and fun pastime close to Laraine's heart.
