Larisa Krot Bandura, a cherished mother, beloved grandmother, devoted wife, Dentist and treasured friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and kindness that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Born in Chernihiv, Ukraine, in 1943, Larisa's early years were marked by the challenges of war. Her family's journey took them across Europe before emigrating to Chile and later settling in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in search of a brighter future. Despite these hardships, Larisa blossomed into an extraordinary individual, graduating as valedictorian of her high school class and pursuing her dream of becoming a dentist.
In Buenos Aires, Larisa met her beloved husband, Yaroslaw Bandura, a fellow Ukrainian and devoted doctor. Together, they built a life of love and purpose, raising two daughters, Natalia and Elizabeth, while balancing their doctorate degrees studies and careers.
In 1973, Larisa and her family embarked on a new chapter, moving to Chicago to join her parents and sisters and begin a fresh start. This transition was not without challenges, as Larisa and Yaroslaw courageously learned English and tackled the rigorous process of revalidating their medical credentials in the United States. Larisa's determination led her to attend a foreign graduate program at New York University in New York City, where she earned her dentistry degree, often sacrificing time with her young daughters to achieve her dreams.
Once established in Chicago, Larisa opened her dental practice in the heart of the Ukrainian Village in Chicago. For many years, she cared for her patients with a tender and skilled hand, becoming a vital part of the community she so deeply loved. Larisa also belonged to various Ukrainian organizations and contributed to the Plast organization, where her generous spirit shone in the kitchen during youth camps that her children attended.
Beyond her professional life, Larisa was a woman of many talents and joys. She was fluent in four languages, an avid traveler, and a spirited dresser who loved vibrant colors and artistic expression. Her home is adorned with ceramics she skillfully created as each piece was a testament to her creative soul. Larisa had a laugh that could light up a room and a persistent interest in astrology, often sharing her predictions and heartfelt advice to guide her loved ones toward happiness.
Larisa's generosity knew no bounds; she delighted in bringing unique trinkets and thoughtful gifts to every gathering, spreading joy wherever she went. Her kindness, humor, and zest for life made her truly one of a kind.
Larisa's passing came too soon, but her life was one that touched and uplifted countless people. She leaves behind a loving family which includes her daughters Natalia (Anatole Mischenko) and Elizabeth; her grandchildren Bella and Nick Mischenko, Dorian and Elliana Lesiuk; her two sisters Valentina Bay and Wira Krot; her two nieces Katherine Bay (Derek Webb) and Elena Tadelman (Marc) and their children who will forever cherish her memory, and a circle of friends and loved ones who adored her deeply.
Though she is no longer with us, Larisa's gentle spirit, caring heart, and treasured legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. She will be missed beyond measure and remembered with endless love.
May her soul rest in peace and her memory be eternal.
