Larry Alvstad

Larry Alvstad, 79 years of age, passed away on Wednesday January 17, 2024, at MUSC Columbia Hospital. Larry was born June 12, 1944, in Williston, ND to the late Margaret Whitaker. He was the third born of seven children. He enlisted in the military on January 15, 1967, served a tour in Vietnam 1968-1969 awarded numerous medals to include the Bronze Star Medal with Valor device and was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1971. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Larry married Barbara Wallace in 1969 and had one daughter, Tracy. He worked at Hewitt Robins after graduation as a Cost Manager. Then in 1979 he moved his family to Burlington, lA and worked at Lehigh-Leopold as a Controller. In 1984 he returned with his family to Columbia, SC where he took a job as Controller of Millers of Columbia until his retirement in 2006. Larry loved boating, fishing, and spending time woodworking. He always had some home -improvement project going on to keep him busy, as well as playing Cribbage with family and friends. He resided on Lake Murray with his wife of 54 years. Most of all Larry loved God and his family. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Tracy, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
