Larry Anderson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones & Casey Funeral Home - Salmon on Feb. 16, 2026.
Larry Smith Anderson was born June 6, 1940, in Murray Utah to Samuel Smith Anderson and Lois Wanda Osborne Anderson. Larry joined his sister RoMae, and was followed by sister Karen, and brother Daryl. A brother, Jay died in infancy before the other children were born. Smith always wanted to farm and leave a farm for his boys which is why Larry lived in many different places, such as Sublett Idaho, Draper Utah, Star Valley, Idaho, Crescent, Utah, Park Valley, American Fork and Othello Washington. Smith started Larry's love for farming and inspired Larry's ability to fix just about anything. Larry was the true definition of a Mr. Fix-it!

Larry spent most of his life working on farms for others. Larry had dyslexia and horrible acne. Larry says he was called a geek because of the acne and his inability to read. All sorts of treatments for his acne were tried, including radiation which left him looking like he had gone through a fire. When Larry was young, he was Left-handed and his Grandma Anderson would hit his hands with a ruler until his knuckles bled. She wasn't going to have a left-handed grandchild.

While living in Othello Washington, Samuel and Lois passed away and Larry had gone through a divorce. He was feeling low. His brother Daryl had moved to Idaho to work, so in 1972, Larry came to Idaho. Larry got a job in Castleford, Idaho. A cousin, DeMore Lott, took Larry to the Twin Falls County Fair, and introduced him to Helen Hunt Hulse. After courting for a while, they were married in May of 1974. He liked to say that when he married Helen, he gained a home, a wife and five kids, all of which he dearly loved. He supported the family by using his many skills in a variety of jobs. They were sealed together for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City temple in 1981. His favorite past times were camping and family gatherings.

Helen finished her mortal journey in 2013. Soon after, daughter Carol and her husband Randal bought property in Salmon. They wanted to take care of Larry so he wouldn't be alone. He moved to Salmon to care for their property until they could get moved here. He stayed at the top of the unfinished barn. He had a George Forman Grill and did his dishes in the barn sink. There was a bathroom, so he was able to take a shower.

Since he was new in town, he joined the singles group at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Some of Shirley's friends told her she needed to meet a new gentleman in town who lived in a barn. On a rainy, cold night in June, there was a singles' potluck at the barn. Everyone sat on milk crates and cooked the burgers on his George Forman Grill. After everyone left, Shirley stayed and told him the history of the area and how she had lived down the same lane until she was ten years old. That evening, a friendship had begun. They soon found room in their hearts to love again. By the time Randal and Carol made it to Salmon, Shirley had already decided she was going to take care of him.

They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Valentine' Day in 2015. Shirley added excitement and energy to his life with all the bright colors in her wardrobe a few days short of eleven years! He always complimented her. Larry always had a smile and told people thank you for anything they did.

Larry passed away on February 11, 2026, at home while holding his sweetheart's hand. Larry is survived by his wife, Shirley of Salmon and sister Karen Vickery. His kids, Kenny (Ilene) Hulse, of Buhl, Carol Hulse (Randal) Stoker of Carmen, Craig (Deanna) Hulse, of Buhl, Lori Hulse (Dennis) Baxter of Cody, Wy and Shara Sullivan (Dave) King of Dillon, MT. Along with multiple grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and countless friends who loved him dearly.

Dear Family - We are so sorry to hear of Larry's passing. We have good memories of working and playing with Larry. Our families grew up together and we shared church and work for several years. We also got to know Shirley and enjoyed some fun visits with them. We send our prayers and much love. So thankful for the love and good times we get to share with such good friends.
