Larry Leo Arensdorf, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2024, at Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa, IA.
Larry Arensdorf was born on October 10, 1946, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Leo Joseph and Joan Elizabeth (Foust) Arensdorf. As he grew, so did his capacity for kindness and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Larry was the kind of person who could strike up a conversation with anyone and leave them smiling, a testament to his belief that he never met a stranger.
Throughout his life, Larry cultivated a passion for travel, embracing every opportunity to explore new places and create memorable stories. His adventures were always recounted with a twinkle in his eye, captivating his audience as only he could. Yet, it was the stories of his family-especially tales of his children and grandchildren-that he shared with the most pride and joy.
Larry's legacy is lovingly carried on by his devoted wife, Sandra of Maquoketa, and their children; Deanna Mays of Fulton, IL; Laura Westphal (Tim Nelson) of Maquoketa; Becky (Tom) Wiebenga of Maquoketa; Brad Arensdorf of Jacksonville, FL; Bryon (Lori) Arensdorf of Tipton, IA; and Aaron (Shanda) Arensdorf of Walford, IA. He was a proud grandfather to thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and fulfillment to his life.
Larry is also survived by his siblings, who share in the family's memories: Martin (Sonja) Arensdorf of Dubuque, IA; Daniel (Lou Ann) Arensdorf of Dubuque; Neal Arensdorf of Rock Falls, IL; Mary Joan (James) Gothard of Walnut, IL; Alice (Jon) Davis of Galena, IL; Ruth (Steve) Arlen of Zwingle, IA; and Nancy (Dean) Herbst of Dubuque, IA. He was preceded in death by his brothers Jimmy, Leonard and Sam and son-in-law James Mays.
A celebration of his life will be held from 1 to 4 P.M., Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Wiebenga Lumberyard, 22751 Highway 64, Maquoketa, Iowa. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family. Cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Larry Leo Arensdorf memorial fund has been established.
