Larry Wayne Asbury, well known Vinita resident, and businessman, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at St. Francis Vinita Hospital. He was born on December 29, 1947, in Vinita to William Wayne and Mildred Pauline (Stanfill) Asbury. Larry attended Vinita Schools and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He owned and operated Larry's Auto Body Shop in Vinita for many years before retiring. Larry was united in marriage to Cathryn Ruth "Cathy" Ruckman on July 31, 1992, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Larry was a member of the American Legion Dale Peace Post #40 in Vinita. He attended church at the Wesleyan Holiness Alliance Church in Vinita. He enjoyed fixing up old cars, junking, golfing, and watching sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Warren Asbury, sisters, Mary Fox, and Vivian Asbury, and his daughter, Waynel Asbury.
The family includes his wife Cathy of the home, sons, Mike Cox and wife Sharon of Locust Grove, Frankie Cox and wife Stephanie of Salina, daughters, Tonya Moorhead and husband William of Cleora, Christine Scott (Scott Littlefield) of Vinita, brother, James Asbury of Vinita, nephew, Aaron Asbury (Katie), Ava and Weston of Adair, niece, Stacy Peace and family of Phoenix, Arizona, seventeen grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the Burckhalter-Highsmith Chapel in Vinita.
The celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Burckhalter-Highsmith Chapel with Pastor Gerald Allen officiating. Interment will follow at the Carselowey Cemetery south of Vinita. Online condolences may be made at www.highsmithfh.com or on the funeral home Facebook page. Arrangements are in care of the Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral and Cremation Services of Vinita.
